Bills cab pile up when sickness is rn the family. 1 guess a poor per son has to go in debt to have anything and debts are jusj, a part of life. Did you know your boss and you owe each other? Yes. you owe him a good day’s work and he owes you a goad day’s pay. I owe my folks a debt I’ll never be able to pay. My greatest debt is to Christ Jesus, who died on the cross for r me. He took my place, He was pure and I am a wretched sinner. I was lost and headed for Hell until h e took charge. I am saved and I am washed in His bloqd because His blood was shed for me. I am trying to point souls to Christ because I love you and want „to be a soul winner for Jesus. Jesus is pointing His finger at you. What are yyu do ing for Christ or are you for Satan ? The Bible says: “Go, sell' the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.”—ll Kings 4:7. a “Nothing great was eifer achieved without enthusi asm.” I < Chowan County Churches EDENTON BAPTIST CHURCH REV. Today, in the parable of the householder and the laborers in his vineyard, we apply ourselves to the question: What are the differences between God’s stand ards and ours? We have already observed, in past lessons, that Jesus’ teachings at this time revealed a new sense of urgency, for the time of his death was fast approaching anil he was concentrating 'the greater part of his efforts in, preparing the DiSciples to carry dn his work after he had departed this i ar’.h ly life, v . . . ; Therefore, he met any questions with a parable, giving them food for thought as they examined his words to find tile hidden meaning and the beliefs and rules for liv ing that h ( * was thus laying down for their guidance. Tile pfarttular parable we are studying today—that of the owner of the vineyard and his treatment of those who labored for him — contains much guidance for us to day as w§ labor in his cause. From it we learn that God's .love and His Grace are extended to everyone-—the late-oomers as well as those who labored for Him from the beginning. The vine yard owner kept to bis bargain with the first laborers he hired; lie paid them one denarius a day— the amount for which they were hired. But, in his mercy, he also paid those who worked only half a day, or even only an hour, one denarius apiece, for they were willing to work; indeed, they had stood around tiie marketplace waiting to lie put to work. God has promised us our just rewards for laboring in His cause. But, over and over again, throughout tie Bible, it has be n reiterated that all a sinner needs In do to be saved is to repent, and lie will be admitted to the Kingdom. Should we, therefore, having devoted years of service In Him, be jealous of the late comer who reaps tile same bene fits as we, only having perhaps labored a year and a day in God’s service ? Certainly we will not admit jealousy to our heart if we are true Christians doing our ul ■inost to live up to tile high stand aids set by our Lord; rather wi will rejoice that a lost lamb hat been restored la the fold! Certainly there is work for all in God’s vineyard. The man has not yet been born who can work long enough, cr hard enough, diligently enough to merit the re wards of God. For God does not pay on the basis of service, bill of Grace, In this workaday world of out> we lend to be materialistic in our outlook and our approach.
