PAGE TWO )—SECTION ONE Edenton Class Os 1940 Enjoys First Reunion : Twenty members of the cliffs of 1940 of Edenton High School observed the 25th anniversary of their graduating class at the Eden ton Restaurant Saturday evening, May Bth. Along with five former teachers and husbands and wives of class members, there were 42 present. Joe Rowlette, Jr., of Wash ington, president of the class the senior year, presided and recognized the teachers who were instructing in the high school in Is>4o. Those teachers attending were Miss Paulina Hassell, senior sponsor, Mrs. Marga ret Brown Jenkins, Mrs. Da vid Holton, widow of Coach Dave Holton, all of Edenton; Mrs. Virgie Speight Gilchrist of ' Washington, Ralph Britt of Severn and Harvey J. Chhston of Washington, D. C. Thfee other teachers, Mrs. Lufcille Clark Cornatzer of Advance, Miss Josephine Grant of Rocky Mount and Thompson Greenwood of Ra leigh sent messages to the class. Resident Rowlette had each member introduce their husband or wife and tell how many children or grand children they now have. One member, Sara Lane Townsend has 10 children. Messages were read from 20 other members of the class. Only eight were not heard ff-om. / The Class History, Last Will and Testament and Glass Prophecy were read but no one would admit to having written the prophecy. Not one thing had been pre dicted correctly. It was brought to the attention of those present that although the members liked each oth er very much there had not been a single marriage with in the class. So much fun was had in talking over old times and laughing at past mistakes, the class decided to have an other reunion in 1970. The class presented Miss Hassell a small gift in ap preciation of her love and guidance through the years. Jumss Boswell Is Recognized Pvt. James Boswell, sta tioned in Company D, 11th Battalion, Third Training Brigade, Ft. Jackson, S. C., has been selected Outstand ing Sentry of the brigade. His selection was on April 24th. Mr. and Mrs. William L. Boswell, parents of the sold ier, received a letter from Col. Truman A. Hopkins in which he informed them that the selection was based on. “military bearing, neat ap pearance, leadership, knowl edge of basic military sub jects, high moral character and attention to duty.
