k—SECTION ONI PAGE TWO § - i £ j m * It was fun to get The Herald When we’re so far from home- Buff has read them all through twice And will finally be glad for a while — Not to roam. Hello! We returned to Birming ham late this evening, from London, after having traveled since last Thursday, and be lieve me we’re tired. Since my son and his wife found it necessary to go to Paris after Dublin, we went along U. S. 17 North Continued from Page One presented for this goal. Wood stated that if the group took one project a year it would take 20 years to accomplish the area needs. “Our success lies in agree ing on a priority project and backing it to completion,” he concluded. Herbert Small of Elizabeth City, asked about the Eliza beth City urban loop road approved by the past com mission. Wood said he and the committee assumed this project would be built. The committee also passed a resolution asking the State Highway Commission to study carefully the Federal Highway Beautification Act before accepting any part of the program. Too, the group will ask town councils and county commissioners throughout the Albemarle area to support the highway group’s recom mendations. The next committee meet ing will be held in Hertford early in January, 1966. SCHOOL BOARD The regular meeting of Chowan Board of Education will be held Monday, No vember 1, at 8 P. The first place we visited was Sacre Colur which is most beauti ful and such an impressive place to be long remembered. We had rented a Hertz at the airport for our convenience, so we did a quick tour of Paris and it indeed was the quickest ride I ever experi enced. I still don’t under stand why half the Parisians don’t kill the other half in cars. On Sunday we were on our own as the children flew back home. We took a morning tour to Versailles along with others from dif ferent countries under the leadership of a guide. Per haps the thing I’ll remem ber most from here was the Hall of Mirrors and the Peace Treaty table in the Palace. The formal gardens were quite beautiful. Sun day afternoon we walked the Champs Elysis then taxied to Notre Dame, about which it would take me several [ pages to describe, as it is more beautiful than I ever imagined. Services were be ing held with about 5.000 people there, some in wheel chairs and on stretchers From there we walked the left bank of the Seine and then back to our hotel . . . very tired. Our telephone rang and a tirade of French came through. I, in my limited French, said I didn’t understand and the voice then said in rough English, “Did you order a roast beef sandwich?” I sure wasted my French on him. We left Paris Monday and flew to London, took a guid ed tour there, all about which I’ll tell you later. We may even go to Scotland this week. See you soon— KATE. puts them in their most expensive models. And we give you two brak ing systems instead of one. Gives you two chances to stop. We even hove ashtrays that roll out on baH bearings. Not even Cadillac goes that far. We figure, with that kind of am munition we re set to call the Giants' hand. We've got the quality built into four separate lines of cars. ii> €n»o\ FOLD fPIMQif 1 ii 1 “ 'li'K J —® ii»hi 1.1,111,1 .
