Deadline for the c ale of the new GI policies is midnight, May 2, 1966. The insurance is open ‘to those veterans who wpre originally eligible for GI in surance between October 8, 1940, and January 1, < 1957, and who either failed to take it out or let it lapse after purchasing it. The eligible veterans must have a service-connected dis ability or a non-service con nected disability so severe that he cannot purchase com mercial insurance at the highest rates. Veterans have several choices of insurance plans— ordinary life, 20 - payment life, 20-year endowment and modified life—and they may take out the full SIO,OOO coverage or as little as SI,OOO. The next game for the Hornets was scheduled to be played in Belcross at the 1 •Marian Anderson High gym nasium Wednesday, Febru ary 9. _ # - • Albania 4-H’ers Hold Meeting On January 27, the Al bania Senior 4-H Club met at the home of Mrs. Lindsey Blount on Albemarle Street extended. The guest speaker was Fletcher Lassiter, Cho wan Count* agent. He gave the club project manuals and record books to'help persue the club’s goals in life. The club received its 4-H-charter, presented by the United Stg|es Department of Agri culture and state colleges of agriculture cooperating. Re freshments were served by Mrs. Lindsey Blount. Mrs. Emily Brooks is the dub leader. Clarence Stallings is presi dent of the club and Miss Elizabeth Brooks is news reporter. Tax Collections Exceed 70% Sheriff Earl Goodwin has collected more than 70 per cent of the 1965 tax levy, according to a report made Monday to Chowan County Commissioners. The 1965 levy was $433,- 193.41, a record high for the county. Sheriff Goodwin said tax collections thus far are run ning ahead of the same! period a year ago. He reported Monday that tax collections in January amounted to $76,067.42 on the current levy. At tne same time he noted delinquent taxes collected | in the amount or $2,298.93 for years back to 1955. Penalties on these taxes amounted to $383.82.
