I do not care for material things,
A new fur coat or a diamond ring;
But if you’ve got some time to spare,
Dear Lord, I’d like a goodly share.

BROAD STREET

Kale ’
and the average American
man is becoming quieter,
meeker and 'less demanding.
Sounds like a bunch of
“stuff" to me—for when has
any male become LESS de
manding?
This is about the prettiest
time of the year for flow
ers, I suppose it’s because of
the beautiful colors and
fragrances. Righ now I have
several vases of glorious
yellow jonquils, a few sprigs
of spirea and the most frag
rant white narcissus. Some
of these I pure stole from
the yard of Mrs. Carroll
Kramer, whose flowers are
blooming profusely. Each
year Mrs. Kramer has such
a variety of beautiful flow
ers, especially, in the spring
and she is most gracious in
sharing them. What is more
thrilling to the eye than the
first purple crocus, or a sun
ny daffodil! in a yard with
ail the beautifully colored
birds darting in and out?
Each new day has the
promise of something differ
ent and exciting, or just the
joy of living. The ring of a
telephone can change your
day, your life and your ex
istence. Sometimes it can
be bad news, but it’s nice
to awake in the morning
with a brand new day. For
instance today we had a
very nice surprise. Some
relatives who spend the
winter in Florida sent us a
crate of tree ripened oranges
and grapefruit. As I write
this, we’ve already sampled
the oranges and they are
truly delicious. This was
indeed a thoughtful gift,
which is thoroughly appreci
ated and quite unexpected—
so you see, a new day a new
surprise.
Do you owe anyone a let
ter? Stop, if you can, and
write it now. It may mean
a lot to someone who
watches each mail delivery
and who, on awaking each
morning, thinks “Maybe I’ll
hear from them to&ay.”
Remember the Lenten
luncheons at the Methodist
Church each Wednesday at
1 P, M. Enjoy an hour of
delicious food, good fellow
ship and good speaking.
TRY THIS:
Put a folded paper towel
on the toast plate, as this
helps the bottom slice of
toast from becoming soggy
from condensation.
Women (ancient Greek)
who’d gotten too near their
home fires and burned
themselves used cucumber
rinds to soothe the skin.
The expression “cool as a
cucumber” comes from the
therapeutic use of this vege
table.
To get a good crease in
boys’ or men’s trousers,
take a large paper bag, wet
it with cold water, wring
out and use it as a pressing
cloth. The creases will be
knife sharp.
To remove a stamp from
an envelope, try rubbing the
inside back of the stamp
with lighter fluid and it will
separate easily.
I’m in need of your fav
orite recipe again. I would
appreciate your contribu
tions.
