PAGE TWO —SECTION ONE r '^»S k ' BROAD STREET bulletin f U ; Kale I have a message to convey, From a friend of ours who’s been away; John Taylor says he’s full of good cheer Since he’s been transferred to the hospital here. On our way to Rocky Mount last week, we stopped by the hospital in Tarboro to see John Taylor and John Graham and even though it was not visiting hours, we were given permission to visit a few minutes. They both were in excellent spir its and so very glad to be alive. They are particularly grateful for all the messages received from their friends. By the way, it looks like seat belts saved their lives— so we “buckled up.” I’ve often wondered why perfumes are so high-priced. One of the chief “noses” of the Paris House of LurrVin explains that the jasmine flower —to take one ex ample has only four tiny petals. It takes thousands to make up a pound, a full day to pick seven pounds and 400 pounds to produce a single - pound of essence. Note: Why don't they make dandelion perfume? St. Patrick's Day com memorates the patron saint of Ireland, Bishop Patrick, who introduced Christianity in Ireland. With this small bit of history up your sleeve, now what would you be servin’ for supper this day especially if you’re Irish? Faith and begorra, corned beef and cabbage, of course. And since that is comparatively a very inex pensive dinner, it should please the Scotch in you, too. Here’s a good recipe to cook this simple meal: 1 corned beef brisket. '/2 tsp. Tabasco sauce. 1 sliced onion. Vi tsp. dried rosemary. 1 stalk celery. Open letters from T. B. WILLIFORD Dear frionrls. Just as we now purchase life insur ance and make a will, it is becoming cus tomary to make com plete advance ar rangements for one’s funeral. This is known as 'pre-ar rangement'. We welcome your call ■ to discuss pre arrangement with us. Such visits, and the decisions arrived at. are kept in strict 1 confidence. Respectfully. 773. WILLIFORD FUNERAL HOME EDENTON, N.C. Tabasco. V, cup chopped parsley. 2 tbsp. sour cream. Pour stock in small sauce pan. Combine flour with a little cold water and stir Into stock. Add horseradish and Tabasco and bring to boil. Add parsley and sour cream and do not boil. Serve with corned beef and cabbage. I just read an article written by a doctor in Lon don who reported recently that several of her young girl patients with Acne were girls who wore their hair with a lock curling forward over one or both jaw lines. The hair-do acts as a barrier to sunlight and may also transfer grease of various kinds—spreading the disease. And also along the line of thought concerning long hair one school prohibits girl students wearing long | hair, especially over the ; eyes authorities can’t tell if the student is copying work from the person sit ting beside her. I’m a Virginia Graham fan and today the subject of j conversation was faith and J prayer. The panel agreed I that prayer time in school j hould not be abolished and to satisfy a probable agnostic parent, it could be a silent time for prayers. They con- I eluded also that parents should not allow a handful of atheists and agnostics dictate to a majority. My personal opinion is that a professed agnostic is really just trying to impress. I hate to hear that young Jimmy Earnhardt is not running again in this district for State Representative. He seems to be such a cap able young man and his pretty wife is definitely an asset. My friend Jane Shoaf. an especially good cook, gives 1 me this recipe for individual pie shells or tart shells. ! They are quite easy to make \ and very good: 3 ounces cream cheese. j 1 stick oleo. 1 cup flour. Mix well and chill. Press i and shape in muffin tins and bake. These shells are good for lemon tarts or fruit tarts and also for creamed chicken, etc. By the just we mean that j which is lawful and that which is fair and equitable. —Aristotle.
