Mr. and Mrs. Graham Wil liford returned home Mon day after spending several days with Mr. and Mi'S. Charles Cox at Pleasant Gardens. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Bowen, Sr., of Virginia Beach were Wednesday guests of Mr. .-’id Mrs. J. W. Winborne. They spent Tuesday and '/Tuesday night in Windsor ■- from Dear friends, A word of praise is due our Volunteer Fire Department. These men are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, yet ask no monetary reiinursement for their loyal service. The hazard of speed i ing to and fighting a fire is a very real one. in addition, the men * meet regularly for training sessions and equipment maintenance. We know that all lo cal citizens join us in , a vote of thanks to our courageous volunteer firemen. Mitchener of Edenton ranks high on the scholastic honor roll at Carolina Mili tary Academy according to Col. Leslie C. Blankinship, president of the school. Cadet Mitchener, son of Mayor and Mrs. John Mit chener, 203 North Granville Street, is a post graduate student at the academy. Foi this reporting period he ranked third highest scholas tically with an average of 96.4, classifying him an honor student. .j« Boy Scout News • Chester C. November 7, 1966 The Town Council of the Town of Edenton met this day in regular session at the Edenton Municipal Building at 8:00 P. M. Members present: Mayor John A. Mitchener, Jr., J. Edwin Bufflap, Luther C. Parks, David G. White, and Leo Katkaveck. Mayor Mitchener called the meeting to order and Councilman Parks gaye the invocation. Councilman J. D. Elliott submitted a letter of resignation as Councilman from the First Ward whfch was brought about by hiS moving from the confines of this Ward. He expressed his thanks tq the. Councilmen ahd employees" "of the City and said that he looks forward to working with the Council on future projects. Motion by Luther C. Parks, second ed by J. Edwin Bufflap,. duly carried, accepting Councilman Elliott’s resignation with deep regret and expressing the Council’s thanks to him for a job well done. Motion by J. Edwin Buff lap, seconded by Leo Katka veck, unanimously carried awarding the bid. for two 1967 four door Police auto mobiles, per' Tbwn’e specifi cations, to George Chevrolet Company for a bid of $2,360. .The Administrator was di rected to notify Mr. George that service on these cars would be expected and that the delivery time would be as soon as posible. A request of Carolina Trailway Company for the ieliniation of ho parkihg irea at the bus tetminat was tabled at this time. Admini trator was directed to in form the Company that no action would be taken at present. Administrator reported that Mr. Victor Bryant stated that Mr. Lawson Lester had sign ed the re-negotiation lease and it was in the mail to the Town of Edenton at the pres ent time. A letter was read from Mrs. Ole S. Neilson, Albe marle Court area, relative to he air pollution problem created by Albemarle'Peanut Company. Mr. Gardner 1 read a letter directed > to'*.- Mrs: Veilson which requested the Peanut Company to investi gate this matter report heir findings to/him as soon as possible. V A request' from, the Taxi drivers was presented to the Council by Mr. Gardner which requested that they be granted four parking daces in the parking lot ad jacent to ,P & Q Super Mar ket. The Council’s feeling in that they have no obligation to furnish private parking places for the Taxi drivers and requested the Chief of Police to notify them that a certain lot located on West Queen Street could possibly >e rented to use as a taxi stand. White, unanimously carried accepting Mr. Privott’s resig nation with regret expressing the Council’s thanks to him for all services and wishing him the best in future en deavors.
