SAMUEL COX The Albemarle Future Farmers of America Fed eration Land Judging Con test will be held Thurs day afternoon, March 16, in Gates County, reports Lloyd C. Bunch, Albemarle Soil and Water Conserva tion District chairman. Mr. Bunch says voca tional agriculture students from throughout the six county federation will par ticipate in the contest. FFA chapters from Cho wan, Perquimans, Gates, Camden and Currituck Counties are included in the federation. The purpose of land judging is to learn first to recognize and evaluate the physical characteristics of the soil which affect crop growth and land use. And second to decide what soil and water management will be required to preserve the soil and maintain it in profitable production un der its most intensive use capability. Baseball Team Needs Support The Edenton - Chowan Baseball Club has reached approximately 40 per cent of its goal, but has to get more season tickets sold in order to purchase much needed equipment and in surance. Bill Herman, who is di recting organization of a semi-pro team in the area, said baseballs, bats, catch er’s equipment and um pire’s gear will be neces sary. Also, the team must have SIOO in order to pur chase accident insurance to protect team members dur ing the season.
