BE IT RESOLVED by the Chowan County Board of Elections of Eden ton, North Carolina that in accordance with a resolution adopted by the 1 Board of Councilmen of the Town of Edenton, Edenton, North Carolina, and the General Laws of the State of North Carolina, the Chowan County Board of Elections hereby calls for an election to be held in the Town of l Edenton on Tuesday, May 2, 1967, the same being the First Tuesday after the First Monday in May, the date established by the law for said elec tion. Hendrix of Tyner has been granted a fellowship at the Univer sity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to participate in a seminar in the School of Journalism. Mrs. Hendrix is faculty advisor for The Chowan ian, award winning student publication at Chowan High School. The (fellowship for study June 9-29, was granted by The Newspaper Fund, Inc. Mrs. Hendrix’s application was sponsored by The Chowan Herald. The intensive seminar is designed by Dean Wayne A. Danielson for teachers who desire to revise and improve the courses they offer, and to improve per sonal skills in writing and editing. Paul S. Swensson, execu tive director of the fund, said his group is enthusi astic about the seminar. “They (the directors) are confident that it will pro vide you with the inspira tion to develop better pub lications, to enhance the teaching of journalism and to guide more talented young people into news paper careers,” he said. She is vice president of Business Education Teach ers of the Northeastern District, NCEA, and a member of Pi Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, hon orary teachers’ society. Mrs. Marvis B. Hendrix Stewardship Week Planned Soil Stewardship Week will be observed April 30- May 7, according to Lloyd C- Bunch, Chairman of the Albemarle Soil and Water Conservation District. “This makes 13 years that Soil and Water Con servation Districts have called upon the public to consider the moral respon sibility of caring for our natural resources," Bunch said in making the an nouncement. “The emphasis for our observance this year is upon the private landown er’s responsibility,” Bunch said. “The stewardship of a piece of God’s earth calls for a special sense of ser vice,” Bunch said. “The. landowner knows that the responsibility entrusted to him is unique. How each bit of land is tended af fects neighbors near and far. That is one reason why millions of landown ers join together and par ticipate in soil conservation district programs".
