Cynics say that Sea Sickness is all in the head,
But mine jumps down to the tummy instead;
When I found “white perch” fishing is not for me,
Because watching waves gives me ‘Mai de le Sea’.
I’m almost ashamed to
admit that being out in
rather ripply water m the
sound ’made me a little
dizzy and sick recently.
Even though it snakes me
feel like a sissy, I still
think it was “somethin’

This is one of my favor

the gardenias bloom. Gar

there a difference?) are
such beautiful flowers and
if -I could, I'd have them

house. Our bushes froze
back this year and so far
we’ve had only two blooms.
However, a friend shared
some of her blooms with

Did you know that the
average man loses his
temper on the average of
six times a week, where
the average woman loses
her temper just about
three times a week? What
does that prove?
We have company this
week from Hagerstown,
Md., Grandma Zimmerman,
who has been here before
and who just loves to visit
us, and my sister, Mrs.
Eula Boppe, who thinks
Edenton is most beautiful.
In my ramblings over
town this week I had them
riding with me and they
sat in the car while I
made my rounds. They
enjoyed looking at the
water and all the historic
sights, but most of all they
agree that this is surely
one of God’s chosen places.
Last week I printed the
recipe for a pound cake
THE CHOWAN HERALD, EDENTON, NORTH CAROLINA, THURSDAY, JUNE N, 1967.
given to me by Mrs. Mel
Parham of Asheville. This
week I give you her recipe
for Deviled Crab Meat and
let me tell you, it is most
delicious. Melt % cup
butter, add Vi chopped
green pepper, 1 stalk chop
ped celery, 1 cup minced
cnion and % pimento
minced and steam about 20
minutes. Add 1 tsp. salt,
Vi tsp. pepper, 1 tsp.
thyme, 1 tsp. dry mustard,
1 tbsp. Worcestershire
sauce and a few drops of
Tabasco. Stir in a cup of
■flour and cook over a low
fire 20 minutes, stirring oc
casionally. Add two cups
hot milk and stir until
mixture is the consistency
of a heavy paste. Add 1
pound crab meat, remove
from fire and cool. Put
crab meat into shells and
refrigerate. Preheat in 350
degree oven ,top crab with
cracker crumbs and a dash
of butter. Bake 15 min
utes. Makes 16 delicious
servings.
We received a nice note
from Miss Lena Jones, who
is, as usual, spending the
summer at Montreat. Miss
Lena, with her usual
cheery countenance, will
always be an asset and a
boost to people around her.
She says the rhcndendron
blossoms are beautiful in
the hills and that her elec
tric blanket still comes in
handy. We’ll be very glad
to see her around these
parts again, come the fall
season, when she can start
our day over a cup of cof
fee here on Church Street.
Helpful Hints
Instead of shaking froz
en orange juice in con
tainer, try pouring it from
one glass jar to another—
tjjptes better.
Cigars kept in the freez
er stay fresh for years.
Plain vinegar is an ex
cellent wood bleach.
Do not peel onions that
are to be boled. The skin
helps keep the flavor and
food value from dissolving
in water.
Clear fingernail polish
makes a fine glue to mend
broken china and small
items.
A drop of olive oil add
ed to butter when you’re
cooking will keep the but
ter frcm browning.
