Letter To Editor To the Editor: When writing last week about the proposed dese cration of Church Street, I purposely presented only part of my plan for an east • west route through Edenton, thinking that of fering only the eastern sec tor would focus attention on the more immediate problem of saving Church Street. For the balance of the east-west route you con tinue west from Broad Street over Freemason with two alternatives; the first is to revive the old rail road right of way to the recently widened part of West Queen Street, then out over U. S. 17; the other is to continue west over Freemason to the end of the street, then pioneer a new street, laid out with proper reference to the ex isting streets, to U. S. 17, more or less opposite Al bania Place. Os the two, the railroad right of way is patently a stopgap or makeshift, add ing little to the future of Edenton; the new street beyond the present built up section would be a de sirable permanent asset to the town, creating a new development area, suitable for residential sites, which ultimately would add con siderably to the tax dup licate as well as providing New big-screen size for family viewing NEW 1968 'miiTH Z2ffRECTANGULAR . You can rest assured that diverting east • west traffic to the length of Queen Street or providing no bypass for U. S. 17 heavy traffic will bring on, and quickly the widening of Queen Street It should be kept in mind, at the same time, that when a U. S. 17 bypass around Edenton is a reality, all heavy truck traffic through any part of the town will be a thing of the past. RALPH VAN MATRE.
