p —A PAGE TWO BROAD STREET BULLETIN -br- Kate I iS u -*W . Will there be Peace at Christmas? With all the world in strife? It’s up to all of us for good To work at Christ-like brotherhood. Ever since I can rerren ber,- we have talked sang and read about Peace on Earth at Christmas. Will it ever be? Wasn’t it a lovely pa rade Monday afternoon? The floats, especially those with children taking part, gave everyone' a real feel ing of anticipation of the coming holiday season. Our small grandchild had never seen a parade before and it was a real pleasure to watch her as well as the parade. I received a ?sant note this week from our friend Frank Muth, who some time back was im mobile because of an ac cident with his foot. We were very glad to know that Frank is again able to be about, as we’ve miss ed seeing him, tall and straight, walking along the street with a cheerful word for everyone. Another person whom we miss very much is our neighbor, Mrs. Ida Mae Roberson, who is still with her ill sister in Washing ton, D. C. From her cor respondence, she sounds mighty homesick, so let’s send her some cards. Her address is: Mrs. Ida Mae Roberson, 3308 19th St., N, W.. Washington, D. C. 20010. Black Walnut Taffy: 2 cups com syrup. 1 cup sugar. 1 tablespoon vinegar. 2 tablespoons butter. 1 teaspoon vanilla. 2 cups walnuts. Put first four ingredients into a skillet. Cook slow ly until small amount be comes brittle vn>>'n dropped in cold water. Add vanilla and stir quickly. Pour in to greased pan. Here’s how to make Po mander Balls, an old time gift for Christmas: Select large, firm Florida or anges. Stick whole cloves into each one until com pletely covered. Roll in a mixture of equal parts of ground cinnamon and orris root; use about 1% table spoons of mixture for each orange. Pat in as much of the powdered mixture as will adhere to the orange. Wrap the Pomander in tis sue paper. As the Po mander dries and shrinks it develops a spicy frag rance. Remove from paper, shake off loose powder and the Pomander is ready for use. Helpful Hints Dried orange and grape fruit peel and rinds make good fuel for the fireplace and also give off a lovely aroma. Keep stray thumb tacks on a cork. They’re handy when you want them and easy to remove.
