The Chowan County Board of Education appear ed before the Board of Commissioners in the inter est of presenting to the Board the need for an ad ministration building. Dr. Edward G. Bond, chairman of the Board, was chief spokesman. On account of previous financial commit ments, the Commissioners agreed that they cannot afford the construction of an administration building at this time. After a lengthy discussion the Commissioners agreed to renovate the third floor of the county office building to house the superintendent and office staff of schools. The Board of Education ac cepted the proposal and will have a committee to work with the Commis sioners with plans. John W. Graham, County Attor ney, was authorized to no tify Haughton Ehringhaus of the termination of his lease as operator of Hotel Joseph Hewes, effective April 1, 1968. A motion was made by C. J. Hollowell, seconded by C. M. Evans and duly carried that $188.29 pickup taxes be charged to the Sheriff. On motion of Dallas Jethro, Jr., seconded by C. J. Hollowell and duly car ried that the Sheriff be re lieved o’s the following taxes; Albemarle Electric Membership Corporation, a request for a relief of $286.25 after State Board of Assessment revaluation in First Township; $293.35 in Second Township; $117.83 in Third Township; $102.24 in Fourth Township; Fran cisi Sinclair Chance, Jr., $9.69; Roanoke Electric Corporation refund $21.12, State Board of Assessment revaluation. A motion was made by C. J. Hollowell, seconded by C. M. Evans and unani mously carried that the re quest for sale of beer in Chowan County on Sunday be denied. A motion was made by C. M. Evans, seconded by C. J. Hollowell and duly carried that W. E. Bond be appointed to represent the Board of County Commis- j sioners at the joint meet-i ing of County Commis sioners, Town Council the County Medical Society and Board of Public Works, the purpose of the meeting is to appoint three mem bers to serve on the Board of Hospital Trustees for a term of three years. A motion was made by Dallas Jethro, Jr., second ed by C. J. Hollowell and duly carried that the dwel ling house on South Broad Street owned by the Cath olic Church be relieved of taxes for the year 1968. Resolution Pertaining to Construction of New County Hospital For Pas sage By Board of Trus tees, Chowan Hospital. Inc., and Board of Com missioners For Chowan County. Upon motion duly made by Dallas Jethro, Jr., sec onded by C. J. Hollowell and carried, the following resolution was adopted; BE IT RESOLVED: That whereas, Chowaan Hospital, Inc., a non-profit hospital corporation, has heretofore held title to all hospital property in Chowan Coun ty and has entered into a contract for the purchase of approximately twenty five acres of land from Mrs. E. L. Ward as a site for the new County hos pital; AND, WHEREAS, it is required under the applic able general statutes of North Carolina that title to the tract of land being pur j chased as the site for the I new hospital be conveyed to Chowan County in order that the proposed new hos pital may qualify for fed eral and state assistance incident to the new con , struction; AND, WHEREAS, it has I been recommended by the North Carolina Medical Care Commission and it is deemed advisable for greater simplification and efficient operation that a single, non-profit corpora tion build, maintain and operate properties as a hospital and that title to I the building and site being I presently used as a hospi tal and convalescent unit be conveyed to Chowan County; AND WHEREAS, the Chowan County Board of Commissioners and the governing Board of Cho wan Hospital, Inc., i wit the Board of Trustees, have mutually agreed that the title to all hospital properties should be con veyed to Chowan County when the bond issue for construction of the new hospital has been sold and the proceeds thereof be curred by Chowan Hospi tal, Inc., because of its | contract ft* purchase of the new site and all ex penses including, but not limited to, architect’s fees, surveyor’s fees, and inter est, if incurred, and all other incidental expenses for the planning and con struction of the new hos pital; NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby stipulated and agreed that upon receipt of the proceeds from sale of the bond issue, or so much thereof as may be sufficient to carry out the purpose of this resolution, the Board of Commission ers shall reimburse Cho wan Hospital, Inc., for all sums expended for the ac quisition of the new site, along with the then pres ent value of any sums ne cessary for the full dis charge of the contract for the purchase dated Decem ber 29, 1967, between Cho wan Hospital, Inc., and Mrs. E. L.
