Horner Hears Varied Docket In Court Here Judge Fentress Horner of Elizabeth City, presiding in Chowan County District Court, Tuesday disposed of a number of cases called by Solicitor Wilton Walk er. Probable cause was tound in the case where Dewey Williams was charg ed with second offense of taking indecent liberties with a minor. The case was sent to Superior Court and bond was set at $2,000. Hobbs has been presented a gold em bossed certificate of ap pointment as acting post master at Tyner, signed by Postmaster General Law rence F. O’Brien. Presentation was made by Postal Service Officer John H. Thompson, Jr., of Raleigh, representing C. rianks Gladden, regional director, Atlanta Region, Post Office Department, comprising Florida, Geor gia, North and South Ca rolina. Informal ceremonies were held at the Tyner Post Of fice at 2 P. M. Tuesday. Mrs. Hobbs succeeds Mrs. Nora L Privott, who re tired after 22 years of service. Mrs. Hobbs has been a clerk in the po6t office for 22 years. Thompson revealed Ty ner serves approximately 1,800 people in the general area of Chowan County through the post office and one rural route. The office has 95 lock boxes. This office has annual receipts in excess of $5,000. Seagram’s 1 Crown costs of court for failing to have liability insurance. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $lO and costs or serve 10 days in jail for contempt of court after failing to appear earlier. His appeal bond was set at SIOO. Also taking an appeal was Charlie Wayne Hughes, charged with driving drunk. He was sentenced to 90 days, suspended up on payment of SIOO fine and costs. His appeal bond was set at S2OO. Roy Rogers Brooks, con victed of bastardy, was sentenced to six months. Marvin Earl Bond, charg ed with third offense of driving without a valid operator’s license, was sen tenced to 30 days. Other action taken in cluded: Alvin Alexander, failure to comply with a former order, pay arrears and costs. Russell Paige, failure to comply with a former or der, 12 months, suspended upon payment of $100.25 and costs. James C. Bond, non support of an illegitimate child, $lO per week and costs. John William Johnson, non-support, 12 months, suspended upon payment of S3O per month and costs. Fred Rountree, failure to comply with a former or der, pay arrears and' vests. Ashley Mark Page, Jr., speeding, prayer for judg ment continued upon pay ment of costs. He was or dered not to drive except as transportation to and from school. Milton Elliott, failure to comply with a former or der, pay arrears and costs. Robert Graham Nixon, no operator’s license, pray er for judgment continued. Embery William Perry, speeding, prayer for judg ment continued. Mathew Madrey, driving drunk and without an op erator’s license, six months, suspended upon payment of $l5O fine and costs. Freddy Lee Brown, pet ty larceny, six months. Carl Jackson Waters, Jr., speeding, $lO fine and costs and not drive for 30 days. Wallace White, failure to comply with a former or der, pay arrears and costs. Alexander Skinner, fail ure to stop at a stop sign, guilty of failure to yield right of way, costs.
