Community Development:
Organized community de
velopment offers an oppor
tunity for both the family
and community improve
ment When a community
program is carefully plan
ned and a plan of action
followed, success is inevit
able.
There are 22 recognized
rural communities in Cho
wan County. Twelve of
these were working on an
organized basis during
1967. There are duplica
tions of community or
ganizations in the same
geographic boundaries
which needs to be simpli
fied as much as possible.
Other community organiza
tion and development work
has been conducted by
community action workers
under the Economic Im
provement Council, the
representative agency for
the Office of Economic Op
portunity for the 10-county
Albemarle area. Extension
has also worked with these
workers and assisted with
supervising these and oth
er programs sponsored by
ihe Economic Improvement
Council.
Organized communities
