Chowan Pupils On Lists At ECU
GREENVILLE Nearly
one in six East Carolina
l' niversity students last
winter made high enough
grades to earn places on
•the official honor lists of
the university.
That 16 per cent of the
students—a total of 1,461 —
got official commendation
•front the university as
three honor lists were re
leased recently.
Bobby S. Ooer, Route 1,

Whiteman, 801 East King
Street, were among the
most elite—those who made
?11 A’s. There were 140
students in this group.

McGee Is Given
New Position
Jerry McGee, former
coach of the Edenton Aces,
has been named defensive
coordinator at Southern Il
linois University, Carbon
dale, 111.
In addition to heading up
the defense, he will con
tinue to coach the defen
sive secondary. McGee has
been at SIU one year. He
previously coached the
Kansas State University’s
freshman team to their
best record in history. At
Edenton, he coached the
high school team to two
state championships and a
35-5-4 overall record.
McGee played fullback
and linebacker for Duke
University and Coach Bill
Murray. His final game
was the 7-6 victory over
Arkansas in the 1961 Cot
ton Bowl. He played high
school football in Elizabeth
City.
