PAGE EIGHT a f . jai- - jj Last week was a hectic one in Washington with the arrival of the full com plement of the so-called “Poor People’s March.” On Thursday last, 1 was wit ness to actions which are unbelievable in this, the nation’s capital. Several hundreds of protestors de scended upon Capitoi Hill and staged demonstrations in and around the Long worth House Office Build ing in which my office is ' located. Under the present laws passed by Congress, no one is permitted to demonstrate within a certain area ot the United States capitoi. Their presence was tolerat ed until such time as they began to chant, protest and make overt actions of demonstration. Then the police stepped in and sev eral arrests were made. There was no violence, but nevertheless. I could not help but wonder what re- Who pays... If you’re sick or hurt? Nationwide Insurance does-*- | with the Hospital and Surgical ! Another tragedy of the so-called “Poor People’s March” is the result it is having on the merchants in the City of Washington. Usually at this time of year, the capital is flooded with school groups and civic groups; but not so for the last few days. They are conspicuous by their absence. The greatest em phasis of these results can be seen in the parking garages, where usually at night it is most difficult to find a space in or near the theaters and cultural cen ters. But in recent nights they are filled only to about 10 per cent of their capacity, and no doubt, only by those whose busi ness forces them to be on the streets. I am con vinced that they have been misled with false promises by the self-styled leaders of this movement. It is difficult to believe that the Department of In terior and the administra tion itself will continue to support this type of protest which is doing so great a damage to so many. I do not believe that the Con gress will be coerced into hastily taking drastic ac tions as a result. Recently I have often stated my concern over the fate of agriculture in this Congress, due to the reap portionment of its repre sentatives. Well, it came home in full force this week when a bill which the House Committee on Agriculture had reported out unanimously, to con tinue the farm support pro grams for only a year, failed to receive a favor able vote from the House Rules Committee. The vote in the Rules Committee was an 8-8 tie, which means it could not be re ported out. Os course, we expect to renew this effort Herald Legal Advertising EXECUTOR S NOTICE In the General Court of Justice Superior Court Division Having qualified as Exe cutor of the estate of James Frank White, Sr., late of Chowan County, North Carolina, this is to notify all persons holding claims against the estate of said deceased to present them to the undersigned on or before the 16th day of November, 1966, or this notice will be pleaded in bar of any recovery there cn.
