PAGE TWO >—» Ibroad street BULLETIN —by KATE y>f p : ■ When Twilight spreads its mysterious Veil Across the Autumn Sky And the Sun goes down with a rosy glow And the leaves seem to rustle and sigh I get the feeling of quiet content And the gift of peace that God has sent. I do enjoy the peace of late evening, when the birds seem to chatter among themselves, when there’s a rainbow of color across the sky as the sun goes down and to look across Edenton Bay, when the water is as calm as glass money cannot buy these things thank God, they’re all free! Everyone is enjoying this wonderful Fall weath er, but with almost a dread of the cold days ahead. Now is the time to get all that yard work done, win dows washed and house cleaned. But who wants to work so hard when tlhe fish might be bitin’? Looks like Edenton Methodist Church has clos ed up shop so to speak on Sunday mornings when no cars are parked in front of it. We hope someone will come up with a good solution to the parking problem. It seems to all boil down to the fact that there has to be more room for faster driving. I do hope that you will keep in mind the import ant dates this week, like the food fair and luncheon at the Methodist Church this coming Friday. Chick en salad plates will be de livered if you’ll call the church at 482-3269 or Miss Aurelia Layton at 482- 2572. There’ll be lots and lots of home-baked goodies and other delicious food tor sale. When we were children it seemed like five years elapsed between Christ mas and the Fourth of July. Today we can ' scarcely turn around until another year has pass ed. This is a case of relearning the facts. It is not that Christmas is of any less importance to us, but that each day, each hour has more value to us, and we are more concerned with the ac tivities of the present than the months of the future. The happiest of all people are those who say: “There just aren't enough hours in the day.” It is away of saying—“I failed to do all the won derful and exciting things today I wanted to do.” OUB THOUGHT TO REMEMBER: Break time into bits, and enjoy every morsel to its fullest. Eastern Star Chapter will sponsor a fish fry at the Edenton armory for the Masonic and Eastern Star Home. It will begin at 11 A. M. and continue until 7 P. M. Take Mom out of the kitchen and support this very worthy cause. To end the week with a good feeling GO TO CHURCH SUNDAY! HELPFUL HINTS A few drops of am monia added to each quart of water with which plants are watered will improve the color of the foliage and increase the growth. One of those snip-top plastic bottles when emp ty makes a fine gadget for filling the steam iron. When allowing salad to sit before serving, keep it fresh and crisp by plac ing an inverted saucer in the bottom of the bowl to take care of excessive dressing. To prevent clogging when running dates or raisins through a food chopper, add a few drops of lemon juice Alcohol is far more cooling rubbed on the body than drunk. Be sure to read Kate’s shopping news each week. Scott Not To Be i Milk-Toast Gov. I Lt. Gov. Bob Scott has told the people of North C-rolina not to expect his administration to be timid nor expect him “to be a milk-toast governor.’’ “When I see work that needs to be done, I will not hesitate to meet the prob lem head on,” Scott said. “I will not be a milk toast governor. I will call on you for your support because by working to gether we can bring new life and energy into North Carolina.” “Bob Scott will keep his hand on the pulse of pub lic thinking. My energies will be attuned to the peo ple for inspiration.” Scott reviewed his plat form proposals, noting they are “sound and positive programs for our continued progress and advancement.” He called for an “im proved and imaginative law enforcement program” as well as programs aimed at eliminating conditions that breed crime, unrest and lawlessness. "We can and will move forward in education,” Scott stated. He suggested a pilot kindergarten program and an expanded industrial arts and vocational pro gram at the junior, high school level Teachers deserve an in crease in salary as well as clerical help, Scott said.
