Clever Remarks Used To Introduce Bob Scott (Remarks of Elton Ayd iett, presenting Hon. Bob Scott at rally in Elizabeth City, October 16, 1968). It was in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and sixty eight, in the Province of Alamance, there lived a man named Kerr whose surname was Scott. He lived hard by the River of Haw. He was a tiller of the soil and a milker and herder of cattle by trade. He was a man of vision, a stalwart man of strong will and deep con* victions. Throughout the Province round about him he saw dark clouds hanging low over the people who ploughed the fields. They were weary and sorely troubled for muck and mire filled the byways over which they moved their fruits of the soil to the market places. This man of the Province pf Alamance journeyed to the East and came unto the lost Provinces of the Albemarle, which were in the region of the Swamp called Dismal. He saw that there was a division in the land, that the peo el|j Oj&lBoofie tpi 86 PROOF KENTUCKY ■ f uSI STRAIGHT BOURBON wiuskey * mjM S « SO $ - 00 Mm PINT “ 4/S QUART OtD BOONE DISTILLERY Mtodowlamrm, Reah/riry NOTICE To CHOWAN COUNTY TAXPAYERS The Tax Books for the year 1968 are now in my hands for the coUec tion of taxes. EARL GOODWIN SHERIFF OF CHOWAN COUNTY ples of the Albemarle had been rejected by the rulers in the Temple and were separated from the other Provinces of the Common wealth. He observed their plight and he spoke unto the people saying, “Come, fol low me, and I will deliver you up out of the wilder ness of mud and place you on higher ground.” The people harkened to the call of this forthright man and they followed Insurance Rate Stand Backed RALEIGH—Lt. Gov. Bob Scott said he agrees with a decision by Insurance Com missioner Edwin Lanier to deny a recently requested increase in rates for auto mobile liability insurance. “I believe that all mat ters relating to automobile insurance rate increases should be postponed until the 1969 General Assembly has had a chance to thor oughly explore this nettle some problem,” Scott said. “As I have proposed earlier, I think a thorough 188 CHOWAN BBBAINt BDHNTON, NOBIB CABOUNA. He de livered the people up out of the Wilderness of Mud and placed than upon by ways of asphalt; and the people were ever after able to move the fruits of their lands to the market places, and they began to prosper and were extremely glad. When a generation had passed and the Squire of and complete study of our automobile rates and the Financial Responsibility Act should be one of the first things the 1969 General As sembly takes up,” he said. “I think this investiga tion should be done in co operation with the insur ance companies, the Insur ance Department, and rep resentatives of the general public. “I think this probe should turn the heat on,” Scott said, “and I think we should do something about this spiraling price rise.” An insurance industry spokesman said the over all increase would repre sent about a five per cent rate increase, or about $3.20 per vehicle. “I think our car owners ought to be able to save that $3.20 until the legis lature has had time to find out what’s wrong and rec ommend some solutions,” Scott said. Mr. Heyward To Visit Area Jehovah’s Witnesses of the Central Unit Congrega tion are looking forward to the visit of their circuit supervisor, Joseph Hey ward, O'ctober 28-Ncvem ber 3. Raymond Weathers, pre siding minister, said, "this will be a special week of intense training for all members of the group.” Mir. Heyward’s week will climax with the lecture “Learning From the Mir acles of Jesus,” Sunday, November 3. The public is welcome. the River of Haw was no longer with his people, the Provinces of the Albemarle were rejected-by the Rul ers and were no longer recognized as a part of the Commonwealth of Caro lina, except that during the season of the Ballot the people were embraced with promises of many good things by those who sought high seats in the chambers of the mighty. And when the harvest of the Ballot had been gath ered, the Provinces of the Albemarle were again abandoned without fuel or rudder, to flounder on by ways narrow and insuffici ent for the movement of their products, and their people and their guests. And it came to pass that another man from the Province of Alamance call ed Bob, the son of Kerr, has now journeyed unto the Lost Provinces of the Albemarle and has witness ed a people forgotten, de serted and depressed, He is saying unto the people, “Come, follow me and I will restore unto you full citizenship in the Com monwealth that you may again enjoy the fruits of your labor, and I will again reunite you with the other Provinces of Caro lina. There is also another man who lives in the roll ing hills of the Mount call ed Rocky who is a grinder of cattle and purveyor of sandwiches by trade, a man who is groping in the Wil derness of political confu sion. He calls out in a loud voice to cone and place him in the Temple of Authority; for what reason he does not say and just where he would lead you he knows not. He speaks with a forged tongue, he knows not what he say and the truth is not in him. He is likened unto a dog that chases a vehicle. If perchance he would catch it, he could not drive it. By some quirk of ill-guid ed fate and tragic mistake he has caught one vehicle hut he has made no at tempt to drive it. Should it come to pass through malicious mistake or poli tical confusion that this man should catch this ve hicle, he would most cer tainly wreck it, to the last ing damage, shame and re gret of the fine people of this great state. There is in our midst at this good hour that man called Bob who has prov en his ability through years of experience as a dairy farmer, a business man, a banker, a religious and educational leader, and as Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina, I am sure you join me in extending an enthusiastic welcome to this man at integrity, abil ity and principle, this man whose leadership and ex perience are so vital to North Carolina.
