Hot Chambers
The thrust chambers
used in the first stage of
Project Apollo’s Saturn
rocket must withstand heat
of 3,000 degrees F half
the temperature on the
sun's surface. The fuel is
used as a coolant by cir
culating it through tubular
thrust chamber walls made
of a high temperature
nickel-chromium alloy. This
cooling system lowers the
thrust chamber walls to a
mere 1.000 degrees F.
Beginner Cooks
Need Wardrobe
Os Pots Ts Pans
NEW YORK (a)VAre
you a bride who has just
begun the role of home
maker but can barely boil
water?
The first thing you
should know is thqt you
need the proper pot to boil
it in.
Few women have every
kind of utensil there is but
the novice homemaker
seems most afflicted by the
wrong pot at the wrong
time syndrome. As a be
ginner cook she lacks the
experience in choosing the
utensil necessary for each
type of cooking.
Actually you should buy
cookware like you buy
clothes. You begin with a
basic set, a “wardrobe” of
cookware that takes care
of most of your needs.
Performance Differs
An important thing to
know about cookware is
that not all of it performs
the same way. A cooking
utensil must conduct heat
from the source to the
food. Different materials
conduct the heat in differ
ent ways.
Os materials commonly
used for cookware, the
best heat conductor is
aluminum. It heats up
evenly all over so that the
food is cooked from the
sides and top as well as
the bottom. There are no
hot spots to cause scorch
ing or cold spots to under
cook.
When cooking for two,
you should have two skil
lets —an eight - incher for
omelets, hamburgers and
bacon and eggs, and a 10-
incher for frying chickens
or skillet dinners.
You should have sauce
pans in one and a half and
two quart sizes. The one
and a half quart will take
one package of frozen
vegetables.
Dutch Oven Basic Utensil
A three or four quart
Dutch oven is another
basic utensil. It is larger
and heavier than a sauce
pan and has two handles
for easier carrying. It is
gene-ally used for quantity
cooking, like stews, soups
end spaghetti.
A two quart covered
casserole is fine for one
dish meals. A small roast
ing pan, 12x9 inches, will
handle most roasts except
a large turkey.
A six-cup coffee maker,
a two or three quart tea
kettle, a square cake pan
and a pie pan—both nine
inches finish off a basic
cookware set.
Look for cookware with
simple, uncluttered lines
and level bottoms that sit
firmly on the range. Alum
inum utensils now have
handsome decorator fin
ishes and vivid colors for
glamorous eye appeal and
non-stick interiors to make
cleaning a cinch.
Never!
Breathes there a man with
soul so dead,
Who's never turned his
head and said ‘‘Not bad.”
George Washington’s
Lost Colony!??
yep.;.
Back in the spring of 1766, George
and his nephew bought a 1,000-acre
tract in
PERQUIMANS and CHOWAN counties
But in 1779
GATES COUNTY
was carved out of them.
With the vague old survey lines, no
one is now sure- WHICH county has
the tract.
(Shame on you, George and you
were a surveyor, too ... )

DON’T PUT IT OFF
By MARY LIZZIE LANE
When the days seem dull and blue
And you think nobody cares for you,
Just remember in God’s word
How much more he values you than a bird.
God’s eye is on every sparrow
That falls from the sky;
You can imagine how much closer
He watches you and I.
God is not only on His throne.
He is right here in our homes;
Jesus knows our every thought and care,
That’s why I always feel he is so near.
Don’t put off until it’s too late
Trying to keep everything up to date:
Make preparations concerning your soul,
So we’ll all be there when the roll is called.
Go to church and learn all you can,
God intended this for every man;
Don’t stay away when healthy and young,
Give Him your best; He gives in return.
When our years get us down
And we won’t be able to get around.
Then we’ll be sorry we didn’t do
What we knew God intended for us to.
When we have to take our chair.
If we are lucky enough to get there.
You’ll regret that you neglected His care;
Go to church and meet your Saviour there.
You know sometimes people go to bed.
They don’t get up because they’re dead:
They don’t get chance to call on the Lord;
You’d better call on Him now while at your door.
If fever and pain is what we gain,
We’U have to tough it out the best we can;
Jesus suffered and died
With a sword wound in His side.
So let’s try to live and in Him abide,
When sickness comes He’ll .be at our side,
Do what you can while you re healthy and strong,
For your tomorrows may not last very long.
