W Dear Voter: The time is near for you to exercise your privilege and vote. In the midst of a heated campaign, the public sometimes is in a quandry as to which candidate is most qualified to serve the needs of ALL its people. In the Mayor’s race, there are two other candidates, both outstanding community leaders, and personal friends of mine. But let us for a moment re flect on certain aspects of the qualifications of the candidates. I sincerely believe that I am the most qualified candidate for the following reasons: THE ONLY CANDIDATE 1. That has taken an active governmental role in Edenton’s unprecedented growth of the last 5 years. 2. That helped to instigate and develop Edenton’s Public Housing Program for our underprivileged and aged citizens. 3. That has advocated and helped develop off-street parking, in the last 5 years, making Edenton a better shopping center. 4. That helped plan and draft Edenton’s annexation and zoning regulation, that will enhance our future growth. 5. That has attended the Institute of Government School for city officials within the last several years. 6. That actively worked for the formation of a Plan ning Board for Edenton, that we might take ad vantage of various grant-in-aid Federal programs. 7. That founded his own business and guided it to success. 8. That has direct contact to N. C. Legislature through the Institute of Government. 9. That has first hand knowledge of Edenton’s Plan ned expansion of water and electric facilities. 10. And, that has instigated and aided many of our successful programs, many of which are still in the planning and development stages. WHY NOT VOTE TO CONTINUE EDENTON’S SUCCESS STORY? Walter Jones Reports Continued from Pago 4 No one could disagree with his concern in this area, but on the other hand, I believe the majority of the American citizens are equ ally concerned with the in creasing disregard for law and order resulting in ag gravated assaults, robbery and mugging. It is this area that has caused many citizens to be fearful of traveling in certain areas of our cities. His message requested increased appro priations in the fight on crime, but if the money is to be used for more study and commission reports, then I will not support such, for already there are enough commission reports on this general subject to fill an average library. What is needed are funds to upgrade local police units, additional manpow er, better salaries and sci entific equipment, and along with this, a federal court system which will be equally sympathetic with the victim as they appar ently are with the crim inal. --VOTE-- QUINN -FOR MAYOR MAY 6th, 1969 SCHOOL DAYS By MARY LIZZIE LAME My school days they were fun, I wish they had begun; We were happy as could be When recess came we had a jubilee. And our lunch we did take. Some had bread and some had cake; We weren’t selfish as you know, Because we loved each other so. I can remember the giant oak tree That furnished a place for us to eat, you see; Now the memories linger still As we talked and ate our fill. Then we would run and play, you see, Until our face was red as could be; When it was time for us to sweep our room We had to forget our play and start real soon. It was fun walking home when it was warm. In the evening when we could see the sun. In the spring we could see The bursting buds of the trees. And the honeysuckles were in bloom. We knew summer was coming soon. And the frogs they hollered loud. We knew that fish were in the Sound. And down the walk when we got home We noticed the violets were blooming some. And the firet breath of spring, It was blooming in full swing. Now the years have swiftly passed. But these memories will always last; In those days way back there Children were willing to help and willing to share, Sunday School Lesson Continued from Page 6 familiar being through the efforts of one man one author.
