They fill positions from governmental spheres down to person-to-person levels. Someone has said that if you are too sincere you are regarded as weak, and you can be exploited and maneuv ered by the hard-core individuals in the world. We don’t agree with this thinking. It is still a good feeling to meet people who are sincerely good and honest. It is through the “holding-on” of the sincere people in this world that the des tiny of man can and will be reshaped. It is through the efforts of sincere people that we can say—“ God has truly blessed our land.” OUR THOUGHT TO REMEMBER: “Through your own sincerity—you can control your in fluence.” Colonial Funeral Home Edenton, North Carolina The Good Old Days Recollection This electric toaster was the cat’s pajamas back in 1926. Connect it to a handy electric light socket, and for a mere 7< per kilowatt hour it made toast right at the table while you watched. (Since it wasn’t automatic, you either watched or you ate black toast.) There’ve been a couple of big changes in the 43 years since then. Electric rates are down, for one thing. From 7< a kilowatt hour in 1926 to only 24 today. And toast pops up. Vepco The good old days are now. , — '—. . MOUTH CAROLINA, THURSDAY, MAT 12, 1N». _ y a*^BfPi :***.,.. -■'AT?;; ■■■ * 'iiSfe! Land forming equipment moving soil to lower areas in order to maintain a uniform grade or slope through out the given field. Land Farming Project The land forming demon stration held on B. P. Monds’ farm last Thursday was termed very success ful Interested fanners from both Chowan and Perquimans Counties as well 'as equipment dealers 'turned out for the event. This type of land forming or drainage land grading was a first in Chowan County although a few farmers have performed to some degree the practice of land smoothing or shaping in the past. A detailed engineering and soils survey was made on the demonstration field. This information was fed into a computer which re turned the appropriate de sign including the most desirable grade with the least amount of earth to be moved and the expect ed cost of construction. Field checks were made during and after construc tion to assure accuracy of the completed project. One may wonder why there are such elaborate plans and details as men tioned above or just what is the purpose behind land forming. The idea or pur pose is to provide a land surface that will not only remove water from the field rapidly enough to prevent flooding, but also slow enough to permit adequate infiltration to take place. Land forming eliminates pot holes, areas of no grade and areas with grades steep enough to cause erosion. Soil is moved from the higher or hill areas and carried to the pot holes or basin areas in the rough grad- Rright Future Present indications are that 25 countries propose adopting or expanding their use of nickel and nickel alloys for coinage in 1969 or 1970. These changes will involve 41 denomina tions. mg operation with pans or scrappers. In the final op eration the field is smooth ed with a land plane to provide a uniform on con stant grade which enables each row to carry its own water to a designated out let. This reduces the need for surface ditches and hoe drains, cuts down on ditch maintenance and makes possible larger fields with uniform soil moisture con ditions over the entire field. The uniform ground surface allows precision planting and fertilizer placement and makes har vesting operations more ef fective and efficient.
