■BROAD STREET BULLETIN —by . KATE Little boy of a year or more, And a girl of half past three Have been my joy for the past two weeks— Surely a gift of God to me. They’ll soon be gone and I’ll be so blue, No little girl calling, “I’ve got flowers for you.” However, I’m grateful to their Mom and Dad For giving me this joy I’ve had. It just takes a grand parent to understand the happiness of having grand children around. All grand parents are foolish about ’em, but mostly grandmoth ers. To hold them tight, listen to their tales of im agination and get much love and kisses is just plain happiness. My small granddaughter has an im aginary friend named Tom, who is always with her and protects her. I would that my own imagination could be strong enough to keep her with me but my heart will almost break when I start gathering up toys and baby things after they’re gone. My eyes spill over, even as I am writing this. Have you visited the li brary lately? Well, it would be good to go for several reasons, particular ly now to see the display of Presidents’ Medals which John Taylor has collected for exhibition. Our com munity is fortunate to have folks like the John Taylors settle in our town. Summertime is gad-about time. This past week Mrs. J. J. (Kathleen) Ross and her daughter Betsy of Greenville visited Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ross in Syracuse, N. Y., and Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Benton at Riverridge, N. J. Then for the week end Mrs. Ross attended a retirement party in Raleigh given for her brother, Howard Ellis, who recently retired from the N. C. Extension program. THE CHOWAN HERALD 4| resented at a three-day i hairdressers’ convention at Atlantic Beach, sponsored by Honeycutt Beauty Sup ; ply Company of Green . ville. Those making the trip to Atlantic Beach were Mrs. Irma Allsbrook, Mrs. . Ann Jenkins, Mrs. Mar i garet White, Mrs. Camilla Driver, Mrs. Doris Jean Baker and Mrs. Jo Anne Davis. Then Mr. and Mrs. Jim my Oglesby have returned after visiting their son-in law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Arthur I. Holleb in New York City. With the photograph contest going on, with several organizations par ticipating, there certainly were many pictures taken here Tuesday. Since I am ; definitely not photogenic ■ (my pictures look too much like me), I detest watching the “birdie.” However, for our own Eastern Star Chapter, I “sat.” Maybe this time my picture will be BEAUTIFUL! One small hint: Rubber should never come in con tact with silver. Putting a rubber band around a piece of silverware will leave a permanent stain. If any of my readers have a family of new pup pies to give away, you can . contact the new Penwell i Pet Shop and they will try 1 to find homes for them. i ■ i - Before you lay aside your Chowan Herald, read 1 the information in Kate’s ■ Shopping Guide. 500 as s & H sffiji, ~ss | “s*h Jars'll u.s.covc.nmnrnoPicnD 1 " , '™u™h s a™ i o? n mu m a c HAMS l - i± Canned Ham rllif L D A 1 50 Free Extra 50 B# W►B# % 1| JT gSk wrr ?u2?iATo F F ON ■ ■ 1 ■ m fl Wl 50 Free Extra 50 BB8: •'.:iaiKN CUT jCc c " w8I ‘“*”■» S&H GREEN STAMPS , UP Ik J rasher WITH THIS COUPON AND ST ,Tf!FT) PURCHASE OF . . .
