PAGE TWO-A BROAD STREET mM bulletin mttmf KATE There really was a man on the Moon, To see what he could see. There wasn’t a lot, so he left the spot, ’Tis a pity there wasn’t a SHE. Well, the anxiety is over until tiie next time, then I suppose we’ll all stayed glued to the TV again. Perhaps the quotation is right when it was said “What Fools We Mortals Be.’’ Just the same, I can’t see how our government can spend all this money on exploration when so many millions are needed tor medical research. Seems as though it would be better to conquer Can cer before we conquer the Universe. I can’t help but describe the analogy or the wonder of it all when I think about the very intricate perfection of the Humming Bird’s nest and two baby Humming Birds which the children of Dr. Dees found in the woods this past week. To all who have seen this small nest of birds, it presents just as much of a mystery as the Man in the Moon. It’s al most unbelievable to see how perfect the Lest was built on a tree limb, not showing where the limb ended and the nest began. The nest seems quite pli able and stretches with the growth of the tiny birds. Mrs. Dees feeds the fledg lings with a .mixture of honey and water, from a syringe and in order to get their attention for feeding, David Bass SPECIAL: I DAVID BASS 1969 Galaxie 500 2-door Hardtop Vinyl Trim; V-8 Engine Cruise-O-Matic Vinyl Roof Power Steering - ONLY - $2,969.00 Albemarle Motor Company Dealer No. 708 WEST HICKS ST. The birds are growing steadily and now the question arises, what happens next? As much as I particular ly dislike air conditioning, I’ll admit it has its merits, far this past week has been a “doozie.” Igo in and out of the cool room, standing as much as I can of being confined, then I go out side to get heated up again. To be outside, with my feet on the ground is more than a privilege—it’s won derful! Well, the fishing is def initely nil these days, I suppose on account of the hot weather. Reckon the fish have found their type of air conditioning some where else in the water. However, last Wednesday afternoon Helen and Tom my Jackson took me rock fishing out in the Sound, and all I can say, it was wonderful! Helen and Tommy’s boat lets one fish in comfort, where as fish ing in a skiff is funt, but sometimes the seat gets hard and one’s back needs a “leaner.” However, I like fishing any way I can get it and, yes, we did catch fish seven nice rockfish. Here’s a recipe for Con ga Bars, which someone asked me to again put in this column: IVi sticks butter or oleo. 1 box light brown sugar. 3 eggs (well beaten). 2 cups self-rising flour. 1 tsp cinnamon. 1 tsp. cloves. 1 pkg. chocolate chips. 1 cup chopped nuts. 1 tbsp. water. Cream butter and sugar, add well-beaten eggs, wa ter, then mixed dry ingre dients. Pour in greased pan and cook one hour at 350 degrees. Cut in squares and serve. Very good! A Few Hints A dull overcast day is better for washing win dows. Sunshine dries sudsy water quickly and leaves dull streaks on the win dows. Try cucumber peelings, cut into thin strips, as an effective exterminator for ants and crickets. Be sure to read my Shopping Guide.—Kate.
