r SECTION C John Holmes Highlights Introduction To Agriculture For the first time at John A. Holmes High School, fresh met) boys are given the op portunity to take an introduc tory course in agriculture. Agriculture I emphasizes ag ricultural mechanics which includes all the unspecialized mechanical activities for the home, the farm, or the agri culturally oriented business. As an example, the stu dents are taught how to re pair a leaking faucet or how to run an additional outlet for a water faucet. An important aspect of ag riculture I is that it provides the basic training for carpen try, metals and construction that may be taken later- There are altogether 35 -'students enrolled in two agri culture classes instructed by Eugene Rascoe. Even though the new shop area provides a place for instruction, at least four work tables are needed, as well as an electrical out let for a table saw. The stu dents cannot do their wood work efficiently without the use of the saw. The work tables were ordered more than two months ago and the electrician is aware of the other need. Next year Mr. Rascoe anti cipates organizing a produc tion agriculture class and strengthening the FFA that exists now. About this course Mr. Ras coe explains, “We have a very good shop, but we are in need of shop equipment. We should like to have the school maintenance equipment mov ed out of our shop area. This would give us more room to perform our activities.” - New Lounge Girls’ basketball coach, Miss Sandy Barnhill, has re cently created a lounge for the girls’ basketball team. Along with the gym assist ants, Coach Barnhill divided one of the dressing rooms by a partition, placing couches and colorful decor in the lounge section.
