Approximate ly 400 volunteers attended the North Carolina Division Mid- Winter Conference at the Sheraton-Crabtree Motor Inn in Raleigh on Thursday, February 19, at which time Coach Smith was announced 1976 Crusade Chairman for North Carolina. Services Provided To 1,029 The Chowan County Department of Social Services provided financial assistance and-or service to 1,029 clients during February, according to a report filed by Ronald M. Huffman, director. The report showed 67 service cases. There were 482 families certified for food stamps and 428 participated in the program during the month. The cases included 1,488 persons. Other statistical information included: Aid to The Aged: 12 cases, $1,561 grant; $130.08 average. Aid to Families With Dependant Children: 129 cases, $18,901 grant. Aid to The Disabled: Eight cases; $1,276 grant; $159.50 average. Aid to The Blind: Six .dtife: 's7l4 grant; $102.66 average. General Assistance: One case, $10.30 grant.
