For And About 7 omen Page 3-A Cbuple Wed In Valentine Ceremony FAYETTE VILLE—Miss Bahia Ann Weaver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Paul Weaver, became the bride of Richard Dillard Dixon, 111, at 8 P.M. on February 14 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Mr. Dixon is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dixon, Jr., of Edenton. The double-ring ceremony was . performed by Rev. Joseph Thomas, assisted by Monsignor Frederick A. Koch. Nuptial music was presented by Mrs. Otis Phillip Lambert, Jr., organist, and Mr. Lambert, ywloist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a dress of candlelight satin and re-embroidered Alencon lace, designed with an empire waist, high neckline and long fitted sleeves ending in a flounce. Her cathedral-length silk illusion veil, featuring re embroidered lace appliques and pearls, was worn with a Juliet lace cap. She carried a nosegay of white roses, Georgian orchids and stepbanotis. Mrs. Carl Jackson Howell, sister of the bride, of Charlotte, was matron of honor. Mr. and Mrs. Weaver entertained at a reception gollowing the ceremony at Bordaux Motor Inn. After a wedding trip to the Carribean, the couple resides in Fayetteville. Mrs. Dixon attended Stratford College in Danville, Va., and graduated from Averett College in Danville, with a BA degree in primary education. She completed other studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Hawaii at Honolulu. At the time of her marriage she taught the Third Grade at Chowan Academy. At that time the bride presented her attendants with gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dillard Dixon, Jr., Mrs. Richard Dillard Dixon, Sr., of Edenton, and Dr. Samuel Leslie Bobbitt of Raleigh, parents and grandparents of the bridegroom, entertained the couple at a cocktail buffet at 7:30 P.M. on February 13 at Highland Country Club following the rehearsal. The dinner tables were placed in a U-shape and covered with white linen cloths and centered with arrangements of spring flowers in rainbow shades. Bridal cards marked places for 125 guests who included members of the wedding party, parents of the bridal couple and out-of-town guests. The bridal couple was entertained February 14 at LeGourmet Restaurant at breakfast. Hosts and hostesses were: Mr. and Mrs. Allen Boyd Harless, Jr., Dr. and Mrs. Richard Hines, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hoskins Shepard, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lenox Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Henry Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Benbury Wood, and Dr. and Mrs. David Orlo Wright, all of Edenton. Thg. 100 . guests included the bridal party, parents of. the bridal couple, and out-of town guests. Baptist Sermon Topic Revealed Dr. Robert E. Gray, pastor of Edenton Baptist Church, has announced his sermon topic will be “The One Thing God Desires” at the 11 o’clock morning worship on Sunday. Scriptual text will be Hosea 5:15-6:6. Continuing the series of messages from the book of Hosea, he will take from Hosea 11:1-11 the subject “Let Love Have Its Way.” Special music at the services will include a solo, “Now I Belong to Jesus”, by Mrs. Samuel Cox at the morning service. The Sanctuary Choir will render “Ask, and It Shall Be Given You” at the morning worship, and “There’s Just Something About That Name” at the evening service. Dr. Gray will sing at the evening service a solo entitled “The Love of God.” IB- ' ■' Mrs. Robert Rhett Hunt Bissette - Hunt Married On Saturday, at 11 A.M. The Church of the Good Shepherd, at Rocky Mount, was the setting for the solemnization of marriage vows between Miss Miriam Morgan Bissette and Mr. Robert Rhett Hunt, both of Raleigh. Rev. Charles I. Penick officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Betty Andrews Bissette of Edenton and Mr. George Neverson Bissette of Naples, Fla. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Bunyan Andrews of Rocky Mount. Mr. Hunt is the son of Mrs. Geneva Cousins Hunt of Wendell. Nuptial music was presented by Mrs. Thelma Sasser, organist, and Mr. Bert Capehart Willis, Jr., Mrs. Helen Stayman was mistress of ceremonies. The bride, who was given in marriage by her grandfather, wore an Alfred Angelo original gown of candle satin, poly organza, and Vfenisß fofee, designed by Edythe Vincent. It had a circular half-moon yoke with three bands of Venise lace around the yoke with a self fabric ruffle. The bishop sleeves were cuffed in matching Venise trim. The fitting A-line silhouette had a gently draped skirt edged in a triple border of Venise lace and ruffle trim. The triple ruffle encircled the complete hemline of the skirt and chapel length train. To complete the ensemble, the bride wore a cathedral length mantilla train trimmed with a matching border of Venise lace. She carried her great grandmother’s heirloon wedding handkerchief, and her bouquet was of roses and babies breath. Mrs. Thomas Clayton Willis, sister of the bride, was matron of honor, and Miss Anne Woods Bissette, also a sister of the bride, was maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Alice Marvene Corbett, Virginia Jones Burch, and Helen Rene Hunt, sister of the groom. The best man was Graham Coolidge Cousins, uncle of the groom, and the groomsmen were: Thomas Clayton Willis, brother-in law of the bride, John Welch Narron, George Howard Hall, 111, Curtis Banks Lee, Jr., and Herbert Arron Dennis. For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs Bissette wore an ensemble of candle and brown satin. The groom’s mother wore a floral print ensemble of silk and velvet, and the bride’s grandmother wore a gown of royal blue crepe. Immediately after the reception, hosted by the grandparents of the bride at their home on Thomas Street, the bridal couple left for a wedding trip to Charleston, S. C. For traveling, the bride wore an off-white light wool dress with brown accessories. Mrs. Hunt graduated from Peace College and attended N. C. State University. She is a dental assistant at Polk Youth Center in Raleigh. Mr. Hunt is a documents technician for Carolina Power & Light Company in Raleigh. The couple will make their home in Raleigh. Mother of the Year, attended the 25th annual meeting of the N. C. State Mothers Association held at the Hilton Inn in Raleigh on February 24 and 25. Enterprise Extension Homemakers Club nominated Mrs. Goodwin and was her sponsor for this event. Her husband, Henry C. Goodwin died in 1954 after 54 years of married life. The wedding will take place May 15. had seven children; Mrs. Max Warden of Stratfofd, Conn.; Mrs. Jeff Sewell of Charlotte; Carroll C. Goodwin of Indianapolis, Ind.; Wallace Goodwin and David Goodwin of Edenton. Also Henry C. Goodwin, Jr. and M. Earl Goodwin, both deceased. She has 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Goodwin was a charter member of Enterprise Extension Homemakers Club in 1920, helped organize the American Legion Auxiliary in 1931 is a 40 year member of Eastern Star, member of Edenton Baptist Church, and has been a volunteer Red Cross worker. Her love and devotion to her family and dedication to her civic organizations has had an enormous effect on many people. She has shown spiritual insight through the years by sharing her faith with others and inspiring many people with her thoughtfulness and love. This nomination was a salute to a gracious lady who is the embodiment of the outstanding qualities of a selfless and loving mother. The mother of the year is 'im '' Mrs. Henry C. Goodwin chosen as a composite symbol of devoted and dedicated motherhood. Each year annual awards day has been held in Raleigh honoring all nominated mothers from across the state. Mrs. Edmond Phelps, Columbia, N. C. was selected as 1976 N. C. Mother of the Year to represent N. C. in the American Mothers Association meeting in Washington, D. C. The events of the meeting included a Merit Mothers Tea, dinner and business meeting, coffee hour and tour of the recently renovated Governors Mansion and climaxed with the awards luncheon.
