Department of Transportation (DOT) officials have selected North Carolina’s first cross-state bicycle route. The 600-mile course, known as the Bicentennial Bicycle Route, runs from deep within the Appalachian Mountains to the coastal Outer Banks. This route is Jthe first of five or six such r bicycle routes to be designated throughout the state. Hie Bicentennial Bicycle Route was developed, over a two-year period, by DOT’S Bicycle Program staff. “Our primary purpose in selecting the route was to provide some measure of safety for the bicycling public. Yates said that his staff is in the process of producing a bicycle route pamphlet that will include detailed maps of the Bicentennial Bicycle Route along with a descriptive narrative and information about service facilities and other points of interest. Joseph Harrell Dies At Hoaie Joseph Anderson Harrell, 71, Route 2, Edenton, died February 25 at his home following an extended illness. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Harrell was a native of Perquimans County. He was the son of the late Robert H. and Julia White Harrell and the husband of Mrs. Bessie S. Harrell, who survives. \ Also surviving are two sons: Joseph E. and William H. Harrell, both of Edenton; four daughters: Mrs. Mary Julia Parrish, and Mrs Eula H. Jordan, both of Edenton; Mrs. Margaret Spruill of Chesapeake, Va.; and Mrs. Myrtle Whitehurst of Plymouth; four brothers: Hugh P., Jack and Tom Harrell, all of Hertford; and Robert Harrell of Portsmouth, Va.; two sisters: Mrs. Pearl Sanderlin of Shawboro; and Mrs. Lillie Thatch of Hertford; 15 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was a member of Great Hope Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Friday in Williford-Barham Funeral Chapel with Rev. Stanley Nixon and Rev. Robert E. Gray officiating. Burial was in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were: C. Y. Parrish, HI, Glenn Harrell, Fred Clarice, Dale White, Hubert Harrell and David Earl Sanderlin. Leßaube, IRS district director for North Carolina said today. “If returns are other wise error-free and all necessary documents are attached,’’ Leßaube said, “these labels speed processing of refund checks.” The label, included in the tax package that taxpayers receive in the mail, lists the taxpayer’s name, address, and social security number. Leßaube emphasized that if the name, address, or social security number on the label in incorrect, taxpayers should make corrections right on the label. On a joint return, if only one social security number appears on the label, the other spouse’s number should be entered on the appropriate line on the return. Opthalmology is medicine of surgery of the eye. Dr. Redding is staff opthalmologist at Chowan Hospital as well Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City. He has practiced in the area for more than four years. He is a native of the Greensboro area and has been teaching at the East Virginia Medical School for over a year. Dr. Redding is a graduate of Duke University Medical School. He interned at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Va. and later was on the staff of the Willis Eye Hospital, a U. S.
