Certification of Acreage
«
Cotton and peanut
producers need to report
their planted acreage by
July 15.
This year growers will be
certifying by field, as well
as to a total amount.
In planting, farmers
should keep several items in
mind.
First, if peanut acreage is
premeasured, be sure to'
stay within the;
premeasurement flags. If
peanut acreage is not*
premeasured, be sure to
plant within the acreage
allotment for the farm.
Second, allotments in no
way restrict the acreage
producers may plant to
upland cotton. Allotments
are used only to determine
payments to producers
under the disaster and
target price'provisions. It’s
important to certify the
acreage planted not the
allotment.
Tobacco Growers
In 1976, growers are not
required to stay within their
tobacco allotment. They can
plant whatever acreage
they need to produce their
1976 quota.
Growers are limited to 110
per cent of their marketing
quota in sales. Any
poundage sold above this
amount will be subject to a
marketing quota penalty.
Any poundage sold above
100 per cent of the farm
quota will be deducted from
the 1977 quota.
To be eligible for price
support producers must
designate a tobacco market
and sign a certification that
they have not planted a
discount variety of tobacco
nor used any DDT, TDE.
Endrin or Toxaphene.
Growers will not be
required to certify tobacco
acreage in 1976.
Disaster Program
The normal planting date
lor corn in March 20 to May
20; cotton April 15 to May 15.
Any crop failure during this
time must be replanted.
If you have a crop failure
after the normal planting
period, I suggest you come
by the county office and let
us discuss your particular
case with you before the
crop is destroyed.
Be sure to keep this
disaster program in mind
throughout the year so if
your farm is hit by a
disaster you’ll remember to
contact us.
Basic Farm Data
Operators of farms
visiting the ASCS office will
be asked to verify basic
farm data in order that
records will be current for
program participation. It is
important that the records
show the current farm
owner and operator, their
addresses, farmland and
cropland acreages, and the
identification number for
the owner and operator.
x Soybeans
Price support loans will be
available on the 1976-crop
soybeans. Loans on
soybeans were not available
in 1975.
