School Begins

“Ambassadors for Christ”
at the 11 o’clock Sunday
morning service. Scripture
will be taken from II
Corinthians 5:16-21.
Die Santuary Choir will
render the anthem “Grace
So Amazing” during the
morning worship. Message
in song will be presented by
a ladies trio composed of
Mrs. John Smith, Mrs. Paul
Stearns, and Mrs. Russell
Wheeler, singing “God Did
A Wonderful Thing for Me.”
A special Marriage
Renewal Ceremony will be
held at the evening worship.
Vacation Bible School will
begin Monday at the church.
Sessions for three-year-olds
through 6th graders, will be
held each day beginning
Monday, June 14, through
Friday, June 18, from 8:30
AM. to 11:30 A.M. Mrs.
Robert Gray is director of
the morning school.
For youth, 7th through
12th grades including
graduates, eight evening
sessions will be held -
Monday, June 14, through
Thursday, June 17, and
Monday, June 21, through
Thursday, June 24 -
beginning nightly at 7
o’clock. Director of the
evening school is Miss Nelle
Manning.

Awards 68
With Diplomas
Sixty-eight graduates
received diplomas from
Martin Technical Institute
pn May 28 during the eighth
commencement exercises.
Among those graduating
was Velda Rae Stallings, in
business administration.
The commencement
speaker was James H.
Mcßrayer of Williamston,
district manager of Virginia
Electric and Power
Company.
Presiding over
commencement exercises
was Dr. Joseph B. Carter,
president of the institute.

chairman of the MTI Board
of Trustees.

candlelight ceremony at Swain School, the Student Council

N.Y. While there, her
brother-in-law, John W.
White of Wilkesboro, N.C.
died suddenly. She flew to
Winston-Salem to attend his
funeral.
Club Closes
Until Fall
With summer breezes and
leisure hours ahead the
Edenton Woman’s Club
president, Mrs. Jack Leary,
adjourned their last
meeting, held June 2, until
Fall rountine beckons the
group into action again in
September.
A delightful luncheon was
served in the home of Mrs.
J P. Timberlake, 111. The
guest ** speaker was
Dottie Lilliebridge who
answered questions about
Edenton’s new FM radio
station (100.1 on your dial)
which is scheduled to begin
broadcasting on June 15.
Many club projects were
discussed with specific
emphasis on playground
equipment and other aid to
the schools. Another topic of
concern, due to the growing
membership, seemed to
center around the need for a
permanent building with
kitchen facilities that could
accommodate luncheon
meetings and also be
available for other club and
community activities.
GARNERS HONORS
Stanley Hare from
Chowan County won
academic honors at
Campbell College in the
spring semester.
Immanuel
School Holds
Awards Day
On Friday the Immanuel
Christian School held its
annual awards banquet.
Students and parents
gathered at the Merry Hill
community building to
enjoy the meal and to hear
the guest speaker for the
evening.
Rev. D. M. Hardison,
President of Atlantic
Baptist Bible College,
Norfolk, Va. and pastor of
Tidewater Baptist Temple,
also of Norfolk, was the
featured speaker. Mr.
Hardison used as his text II
Cor. Chapter 4 and 5 to
speak on Scriptural
motivations for service.
Various awards recognizing
student achievement were
presented by Rev. Ashby
Browder, principal and
Robert Reed, supervisor.
Trophies were presented
for Highest Pace Average to
Anthony Evans,
elementary; and Andrew
Rouse-high school. Those
winning trophies for Most
Paces Competed were Joey
Charbonneau - elementary
and Diane Rollins-high
school. The Supervisor’s
Award for academic
achievement was presented
to Diane Rollins. The
Pastor’s Award for
Christian Leadership was
awarded to Andrew Rouse.
Die students planned and
presented a varied program
of religious and patriotic
skits, songs, poems and a
puppet show.

“Going On” is the topic
chosen by Rev. E. L.
Earnhardt for the 11 A M.
service Sunday at Edenton
United Methodist Church.
His texts are: Hebrews 5:
12-14; and 6: 1-11.
Piano Recital
Held Monday
Mrs. C. B. Mooney
presented her paino
students in recital in her
home Tuesday afternoon.
A social hour followed the
program. Several parents
and friends attended.
Students who participated
included: Kim Baker, Susan
Bunch, Patrick Collins,
Tracy Clark, Alice Jones,
Kinion Lane, Eric Strother,
Cherry Anne Taylor and
Emmy Love Taylor.

intendent in charge.
Morning worship service
begins at 11:00 A.M. with the
Young Adult Choir serving.
The guest minister for the
morning worship service

church will be in charge of
services in observance of
Youth Day.
