Page 2-A The Bandon Notebook By Maggie B. Fantesy Land —a vision of unbelievable beauty! That’s how downtown Edenton looks after dark when all the lights come on. If you haven’t had a chance to see it, make a special effort 1 9 drive down Broad Street after dark —you’re in for a real treat! Share with me a thought that has helped me so much: “Trust today and leave tomorrow; Each day has enough of care. So, whatever may be thy burden; God will give thee strength to bear.” Anon. In spite of the inclement weather outside Sunday, inside Bandon, the at mosphere was joyful and friendly with everyone present very thankful to be able to be present in God’s house. Supt. H. T. Bunting warmly welcomed all. He reviewed our prayer list and found that Gus Perry is improving but still in the hospital; Mrs. Eva Jemigan is in Room 2015 at Chowan Hospital; “Dick” Bailey, Room 2061, Chowan Hospital; Percy Smith is thankful to be home; Juanita Elliott is home at present but will have to return shortly; Bill Mat thews expects to be out of the hospital this week; Mrs. Donna Hardison has been transferred from Chowan to Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City; still in need of prayer are Mrs. Neida Smith; Mrs. Myrtle Peele; our dear friend, Fred Jolly and Mrs. Jessie Porter. Please add our friends to your prayer list as well as our missionnaries, Nita Pride, David, Linda and little Becky Smith, and our beloved pastor, Dr. W.J. B. Livingston. A beautiful arrangement of white, fresh flowers graced our altar Sunday. They were presented by Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Moriarty in memory of Mrs. Bob (Jeanette) Harvey. “Cooperating With God’s Plan”, based on Luke 1:26- 38; Matt. 1:18-25, was the subject for our Juniors so, beautifully taught by Mrs. Betty Perry. Aim was that the student will seize op portunities for cooperating in bringing God’s will to pass. Our Adults’ topic was "The Coming Anticipated”, scripture Luke_ 1:39-55, E & T Tours Incorporated PRESENTS A Luxurious Vacation In Paradise WAIKIKI, HAWAII 8 Days —7 Nights Plus a Show of Stars .., HURRY! As Butch pointed out, Elizabeth’s prophetic ut terance was the first since Old Testament days. Aim was that adult Christians anticipate the Christmas season joyfully because of the mercy of God which sent Christ to earth. “Happy Brithday” was sung by all as Bobby Jean Holt, daughter of Mrs. Jeanette Harvey, placed her contribution in our Birthday Bank. —-O Dr. W. J. B. Livingston’s message, based on Matt. 1:18-25 was entitled “Story of Power and the Holy Spirit”. The Christmas story is the story of power. Let’s get connected with the power! II Peter told that Jesus was coming by the power of the Holy Spirit, and by His power, prophets throughout the ages have told just how Jesus would come into the world. The Holy Spirit is the revealer of truth. The Holy Spirit reveals who Jesus is. Zacharias was told that he was going to be the father of a child and his name was going to be John. When Mary went to see Elizabeth, the babe jumped for joy and was filled with the Holy - Spirit in his mother’s womb. His mother, too, was filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a most important person. He is the comforter, the revealer, the convictor, the confessor of the truth concerning the scriptures. » You cannot call Jesus “Lord” except by the power of the Holy Spirit. How many times has the Holy Spirit spoken to us and we turned a deaf ear? The reason so many people have not listened to the Holy Spirit is they are more in terested in wordly things. For $250.00 an or ganization called EST offers a 60 hour course (two weekends) to help people “find” themselves. To enroll you must get your doctor’s permission. You sit in a straight back chair, have to obtain permission to go to the bathroom, and have it drilled into you for the entire period that “you are absolutely nothing or dung. You’re responsible for things that you do. You must keep your agreements. All simply because this is what you have to do.” That is what the students get for $250*00. They could go to the Bible and get the same thing free - but - they have not listened to th§ Holy Spirit. Paul said “I count myself nothing except for Jesus Christ. We are completely naked before the Lord absolutely nothing except for the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus told His disciples i hat He must leave so that ihe Holy Spirit, the com forter, could come into your life, to guide you and give you power. Once you have accepted, the Holy Spirit guides you in the way to go. The Holy Spirit is the war mer of the heart and strength of the soill. He gives you strength td live day by day. All you have to do is ask. Satan tries to convince you that the Holy Spirit does not guide your life. Just say “get thee behind me Satan, I know the Holy Spirit is guiding me and Jesus is my Savior.” God is going to take care of your problems but you must nave patience, hang in there. As Winston Churchill said in his shortest speech “Never quit - never quit - never quit.” Bible Study will be Wednesday at 7:30 P.M.. in Fellowship Hall with Dr. Bill leading the discussion. Everyone is invited. The BCWG meets on Thursday from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. Bring a sandwich and join in the fun. The Children’s Christmas Party, sponsored by the POA and Bandon Chapel will be held at the Arrowhead Beach Club House Sunday (19th) from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. All com munity children are invited. At Christmas time the Chowan Ruritan Club present Christmas Baskets to the needy. If anyone knows of a family in need, please contact Jack Strictland, phone: 221-4234. Mrs. Virginia Koraska had a slight stroke in the wee hours Monday and was taken to Portsmouth Naval Hospital. After treatment, she was allowed to come home until Wednesday. Please add her to your ■ prayer list. First timers to Bandon this week were Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Wales from Virginia Beach, guests of Mr. Wiley Hardison.
