Among those attending were: Thelma Goodwin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Goodwin, Route 3, Edenton; Kathy Small, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vann M. Small, Route 2, Edenton; and Susan McDevett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Saunders, Route 2, Washington. By Nellie M. Sanders Director, Pettigrew Regional Library HOOTS HOLIDAY THOUGHTS- The custom of sending Christmas cards is such a nice one that it is too bad the postal difficulties have led to its decline. Maybe it is my imagination, but it seems to me that fewer cards are being sent and received in recent years. As a con sequence, the ones you do receive from old friends are all the more welcome. The staff members at the Washington County Library were especially pleased to hear from one of our former storytellers, Margaret Moore. The Moore family is now living near Seattle, Washington and Margaret was kind enough to enclose a color snapshot of the three children in her Christmas card so we could see how much they’ve grown. Each of the libraries in the Pettigrew Region (Shepard- Pruden Memorial Library in Edenton, Perquimans County Library in Hertford, Tyrrell County Public Library in Columbia, and Washington County Library in Plymouth) is decorated for the season in an in dividual style and there is a spirit of gaiety that is in fectious. The colorful mobiles which are displayed in the library in Edenton make a delightful addition to the traditional decorations. Traveling was part of the plans for at least three members of the library staff. OCCUPANCY FEBRUARY Ist q |W z m r //JH the Children’s Coordinator, went home to New Jersey for the holidays and I made my usual trip to Raleigh to be with my children and their families. The newest member of the staff, Wayne Henritze, Perquimans County Librarian, planned to use the holiday week for moving his belongings from his former home in Knox ville, Tennessee to his new residence in Hertford. Not to be outdone by the other man on the staff, Kim Varin, Washington County Librarian, did some moving, too. His family moved into a new home and he decided to move almost every adult book in the library. In order to make reference work more convenient for patrons and staff he organized the switching of non-fiction to the front section of shelves and fiction titles to the back of the adult reading room. A slight temporary confusion may be the immediate result but everyone hopes it will provide an improved arrangement. SCREECHES HOLIDAY BOOKS-Even on Christmas Day, I found myself surrounded by books which I could not resist reading. After sharing Arnold Lobel’s “Frog and Toad All Year” with my two older grandsons and the latest Income Tax book with their father, a former In ternal Revenue Service auditor, I became immersed Continued On Page 3 aBIUE FEAfUMNG .fid TDAnC A UriMIE Swift rem " swift prem I swift prem.
