Walker School as the result of the Student Council’s participating in the North Carolina School Beautification Program contest. White Home Ec. Ext. Agent Frank Broadnax will visit Chowan County on April 20 from 9:30 A.M to 11:30 A.M., at the Advance Community Building. Broadnax is an experienced professional furniture refinisher who used the knowledge gained in years of experience to create his own method for reviving old wood finishes. Broadnax works on a small area at a time, ap plying the refinisher with fine steel wool. The piece of furniture is then buffed again with 0000 steel wool. Then he will apply a coat of lemon oil. All those present will be able to buy his refinishing kits after the meeting. Those planning to come may bring a small piece of fur niture. He will be able to advise you on how to refinish it. To enter the contest the Walker Student Council members developed a realistic overall beautification plan con sisting of immediate and long range plans. By analyzing problems and working toward their solution, these students have developed a sense of individual responsibility. Through cooperative school efforts, teachers’ lounges have been refurnished, windows washed, land scaping and drainage im proved, minor repairs made, and a special in school newspaper on pollution for all students. An impressive scrapbook of student accomplishments has been sent with the school’s narrative designation of beautification achievements and future plans. demonstration for January, which was canceled due to the weather.
