Peanut Trading
■ Barely Active
Southeastern Section
Demand for Southeastern
grown peanuts was
moderate during the week
ending May 13 but offerings
were vepy limited. Trading
was barely active at un
changed prices. Shipments
were delayed due to a truck
shortage. Dry weather was
the rule throughout the
Southeast last week. Florida
planting was slowed due to
dry soils but early plantings
made fair progress.
Planting in Alabama con
tinued at a slow pace and
was about two-thirds
complete. The Georgia crop
was about 80 per cent
planted by May 7 but
planting was haulted due to
the lack of moisture. Some
previously planted fields
were irrigated to encourage
germination but some fields
were likely to be lost and
would have to be replanted.
Prices paid per pound for
shelled Runner Type
peanuts sold on an FOB
shipping point basis for May
shipment were: Medium
34Vi to 35 cents; and U.S.
Splits 28Vi to 28%.
Virginia-North Carolina

fair to good. Prices paid per
pound for Virginia type
peanuts sold on an FOB
shipping point besis for May
shipment were: Unshelled
Fancy 36 to 36% cents; and
Shelled Number Two 26(4 to
26%. Other grades were too
few sales to quote.
Southwestern Section
demand for Southwestern
grown peanuts was
moderate for very light
supplies during the week
ending May 13. Trading was
barely active. Prices were
unchanged. Shipments were
delayed by a truck shortage
as truckers hauled the
Spring onion crop instead of
peanuts. The crop was af
fected by cool wet weather.
South Texas growth was
only fair due to heavy rains.
Varying amounts of
washout were reported and
some fields needed
replanting. Planting of the
Spring crop was delayed by
wet soil. Heavy thun
derstorms accompanied by
hail continued. Plantings
were estimated as 75
cent Runners and 25 per
cent Spanish in South Texas.
Central Texas and Olahoma
were just getting underway
but wet soils delayed
planting. Prices paid per
pound for peanuts sold on an
FOB Shipping point basis
for May shipment were:'.
Shelled Spanish Number
