Death Claims Mrs. Crawford Mrs. Mary Crawford Byrum, 57, Route 1, Hert ford, died Wednesday morning of last week in the Riverside Hospital in Newport News, Va. A native of Old Fort, she was the wife of Lloyd Byrum. She was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church in Newport News, and was a member and past predident of the Home Extension Club of Hertford. Surviving besides her husband are two sons: Thomas C. Nesbitt of Newport News; and Alan B. Nesbitt of Columbia, S. C.; three sisters: Mrs. Joyce Mitchell of Hampton; Mrs. B. V. Wilson of Newport News; and Mrs. T. N. Page of Poquoson, Va.; three brother: L. W. Crawford of Chesapeake; J. R. Crawford >of Glocester County, Va.; and R. T. Crawford oi Dallas, Tx.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 P. M. in the Chapel of the Swindell- Bass Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Hamilton of ficiating. Burial was in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Carroll Byrum, Paul Byrum, Michael Whitaker, Mark Whitaker, Daniel Crawford, and Gary Crawford. Umpire Clinic Set Thursday A Babe Ruth Umpires Clinic will be held Thursday, May 19 at 7:30 P.M. at the Recreation Department in the National Guard Armory. Peanut Trading ■ Barely Active Southeastern Section Demand for Southeastern grown peanuts was moderate during the week ending May 13 but offerings were vepy limited. Trading was barely active at un changed prices. Shipments were delayed due to a truck shortage. Dry weather was the rule throughout the Southeast last week. Florida planting was slowed due to dry soils but early plantings made fair progress. Planting in Alabama con tinued at a slow pace and was about two-thirds complete. The Georgia crop was about 80 per cent planted by May 7 but planting was haulted due to the lack of moisture. Some previously planted fields were irrigated to encourage germination but some fields were likely to be lost and would have to be replanted. Prices paid per pound for shelled Runner Type peanuts sold on an FOB shipping point basis for May shipment were: Medium 34Vi to 35 cents; and U.S. Splits 28Vi to 28%. Virginia-North Carolina Section Demand for Virginia and North Carolina grown peanuts was moderate for light offerings during the week ending May 13. Trading was slow at Unchanged prices. Ship ments were made as scheduled. Planting was slowed in most areas due to cool weather. Rain mixed with some hail was reported in Virginia. Light amounts of washout occurred in some areas and fields may require replanting. Crop conditions were generally fair to good. Prices paid per pound for Virginia type peanuts sold on an FOB shipping point besis for May shipment were: Unshelled Fancy 36 to 36% cents; and Shelled Number Two 26(4 to 26%. Other grades were too few sales to quote. Southwestern Section demand for Southwestern grown peanuts was moderate for very light supplies during the week ending May 13. Trading was barely active. Prices were unchanged. Shipments were delayed by a truck shortage as truckers hauled the Spring onion crop instead of peanuts. The crop was af fected by cool wet weather. South Texas growth was only fair due to heavy rains. Varying amounts of washout were reported and some fields needed replanting. Planting of the Spring crop was delayed by wet soil. Heavy thun derstorms accompanied by hail continued. Plantings were estimated as 75 cent Runners and 25 per cent Spanish in South Texas. Central Texas and Olahoma were just getting underway but wet soils delayed planting. Prices paid per pound for peanuts sold on an FOB Shipping point basis for May shipment were:'. Shelled Spanish Number One 37% to 37% cents; and Jumbos 38 to 38%. Runner and Valencia types as well as other grades of Spanish’ Type were too few to quote.
