WHEN you think of telephone service, who comes to mind
first?
Operators, of course!
Operators are the telephone folks who have most contact
with the telephone customers.
A good portion of the Operator’s customer service involves
the placing of long distance calls. Although customer direct
distance dialing (DDD) is wide spread and economical, Operators
are still a vital part of the telecommunications system with Credit
Card and Person-to-Person calls, Charge-to-Third number and
Collect calls.
When direct dial difficulties or wrong numbers occur,
Operators are there to help complete the calls at the normal DDD
charges.
In case of emergencies, operators have quick access to
numbers for police, fire, hospitals, ambulances.
Operators also help customers with rate information and
dialing instructions. They even perform the little-known service to
handicapped people who either can’t dial or can’t see the dial.
The telephone Operator. Be nice to her. She’s a good person
to know.
