Alexander of Edenton announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Shirley Kay to Capt. Albert Gary Conner, USAF, of Oralando, Fla., son of Mrs. Eva N. Conner and the late Lt. Mrs. Steven Martin Kane Sewell-Kane Vows Said An impressive ceremony united in marriage Miss Marguerite Warden Sewell and Mr. Steven Martin Kane at the Cabarrus Country Club on August 20, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. Dr. Loy Witherspoon performed the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Davis Sewell of Charlotte and the granddaughter of Mrs. Henry Caleb Goodwin, Edenton. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Ed ward Kane of Charlotte and the grandson of Mrs. Samuel Kane of Brookline, Mass, and Mrs. Myron Stewart, Miami Beach, Fla. Max R. Shoaf presented a program of nuptial music. Mrs. James Funderburk, was vocalist. Miss Sewell was given in marriage by her father. Her bridal gown of white peau d’ange was fashioned with a Victorian neckline, a sheer yoke and an empire bodice appliqued with Venice lace which encircled the full skirt and chapel train. Her pic ture hat was covered with peau d’ange and Venice lace. The fingertip veil was imported illusion. She carried an heirloom Bible covered in ivory and silver. The groom’s mother, grandmother, and great aunt carried this Bible in their weddings. Miss Mary Davis Sewell of Charlotte was her sister’s maid of honor. Miss Virginia Des Champs Blackford of Charlotte was the bridesmaid. Mr. Michael Kane of Charlotte served his brother as best man. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was the most outstanding ADPi pledge. She is a graduate of the Katherine Gibbs School in New York and is employed by Hixson Utility District in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She made her debut in 1971 with the Charlotte Guild and was a member of the Charlotte Spinster’s Club. Mr. Kane attended Charlotte Country • Dtryi, School and graduated from- Westminster School in Connecticut. He is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He is general manager of Multi- Color Processors Inc., in Lafayette, Ga. Following the family wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Davis Sewell honored the couple with a reception in the Club dining room. Decorations were carried throughout in compliment to flowers carried by the attendants. Yellow undercloths covered with nylon skirting edged with Venice lace, Sonya roses, strawflowers and marguerite daisies, forming a background for the delicious cocktail buffet. Music for dancing by Jimmie Stack of Charlotte. After a wedding trip to Bermuda, the couple will reside in Chattanooga. Miss White \ Will Marry In September Mr. and Mrs. Cleaven L. White, Sr., of Edenton, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Janice Faye, to Mr. Clarence Randolph Cafield, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cofield, Sr., also of Edenton. The bride-elect is a 1976 graduate of John A. Holmes High School and is employed at Winn-Dixie. Mr. Cofield is a 1972 graduate of John A. Holmes .High School and a 1974 graduate of Martin Com munity College in Williamston. He is em ployed with Carolina Power & Light Company in Raleigh. The wedding is set for September 10 at 3 P.M. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Cofield, Jr., Paxton Lane. C. Debutante Ball which will be held in the new Raleigh Civic Center September 9. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gilliam Wood of Hayes. Miss Martha Ruth Am burn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Amburn, Jr., of Edenton, will also be among the 222 debutantes presented at the event. Miss Mabel Peele Geoghegan of Raleigh will lead the ball. Her presen tation will precede that of other young ladies from across the state. Miss Wood will be among 14 assistant leaders. Saturday. Rev. Joseph Grimes officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Flowers Wiggins of Keener. Mr. Gardner’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. William H. Gardner, Jr., of Durham. He & also the grandson of Mrs. W.H. Gardner, Sr., of Edenton, and Mrs. Howard Wade of Charlotte. Mr. Tommy Lockamy was orgainst and Donna Darden, soloist. Mr. Wiggins gave his daughter in marriage and she wore a gown with short sleeves, empire waist and made of candlelight organza with Venetian lace trim. She wore a matching finger-tip three-tiered veil attached to a Venetian lace cap. Mrs. Alan Kearney of Apex was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were: Miss Lucy Bond Gardner of Durham, sister of the groom; Miss Wendy Price of Dunn and Miss Beverly Merritt of Wilmington, cousins of the bride.
