day. In addition, various

days. This year the calen
dars are being sold for $1.25
and each birthday or an
niversary listing is 25 cents.

chairpersons.
This year Clara Boswell of
Edenton BPW Club is the
over all chairperson of the
campaign. The over-all
chairmanship is rotated
each year among the clubs.

Died Tuesday
Portsmouth, Va. Luke
Hollowell, 62, of 523
Broomhill Ave., the husband
of Mrs. Hulda Asbell
Hollowell and a native of
Tyner, died Tuesday in a
hospital.
He was a retired salesman
for the Citizens Home In
surance Company and was a
member of Bethany Baptist
Church and Churchland
Masonic Lodge No. 276.
Other survivors include a
daughter, Mrs. Marlene H.
Jones of Roanoke; a son,
Douglas A. Hollowell of
Chesapeake; a sister, Mrs.
R.O. Hobbs of Hobbsville;
five brothers, C.J. Hollowell
of Scotland Neck, Wilbur F.
Hollowell of Corapeake,
Ralph K. Hollowell of Tyner,
C. Ray Hollowell of Ports
mouth and Benjamin C.
Hollowell of Ahoskie, and
three grandchildren.
A funeral was held this
morning (Thursday) at
11:00 A.M. in Bethany
Baptist Church by the Revs.

T. Evans. Burial was in the
Ballard’s Bridge Baptist
Church Cemetery at 2:30
P.M. with Swindell Bass
Funeral Home in charge of
local arrangements.

immunization Law Is Enforced
RALEIGH About 10,000
North Carolina school
children will start to school
this fall not properly im
munized if last year’s trend
continues, according to
Frank Lewis, head of the
state’s Immunization
Control Program.
The public health official
said the immunization law is
vigorously enforced in
North Carolina and warned
parents that only about four
weeks remain before school
starts in most counties. A
copy of the immunization
record is supposed to be
presented to the teacher or
principal on opening day of
school for kindergarten and
first grade pupils.

Mrs. Mildred Sutton
Garrett, 57, a former
resident of Edenton, died
suddenly Thursday, August
18, in her home in Dover,
Delaware.
. A native...of Chowan
County, she was the
daughter of the late Samuel
James and Mrs. Annie
Copeland Sutton. Before her
retirement she was em
ployed as a registered
nurse. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are her
husband, Paul Garrett; a
daughter, Mrs. Charlotte
Cox of Dover, Delaware;
three sons, Paul Garrett, Jr.
and Henry Garrett of Dover,
Delaware; and Robert
Garrett of the USAF in
Colorado; three sisters,

In an effort to acquaint
school officials with
provisions of the state’s
immunization law, im
munization personnel have
visited about half of the
state’s 145 school districts
this summer.
In urging compliance with
the law, Lewis noted some
200 children were suspended
last year for not being up to
date on their shots. He said
schools traditionally have
had a problem with im
munization records of
children moving from one
state to another. He
cautioned that such children
