Thomas McDermott, Alexander Hall’s adviser, envisions the eent in a broad sense. “This experience,” he says, “not only teaches the students to have a social consciousness, but it also provides them with an educational experience. “The students are lear ning how to organize and carry out a project. They are also learning to think about and discuss world problems.” McDermott says the students are learning how to motivate others to become involved, and finding out that concerted action can get things done. Kathleen McGuire of Greensboro, a member of the Devil’s Brigade, ex pressed her delight at the opportunity the event has provided to meet Chancellor Joab Thomas and other University officials. Members of the brigade will judge and award prizes for the best costumes at the ball.
