Thursday, December 1, 1977 t L Bandon Notebook By Maggie B. IMPORTANT IM PORTANT! She’s at it Madalyn Murray O’Hair, whose efforts successfully eliminated Bible reading and prayer from all public schools, now is trying to eliminate proclamation of the Gospel from the airwaves of America! Such audacity! But, that’s how old Satan works. She presented a petition with only 27,000 signatures to back her - such a small percentage of the millions of people in this great country of ours! She is trying to violate the civil rights of the majority! Yet, the Federal Com munications Commission has granted her a hearing in Washington, D.C. on the subject of Religion and Airways. If her attempt is successful ALL Sunday worship services, gospel singing, or any other religious programs' currently being broadcast MYLANTA. Consider all the elderly people, shut-ins, at home or in the hospitals, an 4 those recuperating from illness or hospitalization who depend on radio and TV to fulfill their worship needs each week as well as those of us who just plain enjoy a good religious program. The number would be con siderably more than those supporting the O’Hair petition. This time YOU can block her! How? Send a letter NOW in favor of religious broadcasting. Tell them you support these programs and why; and urge them to INSURE THAT SUCH PRO GRAMMING CONTINUES. Sign your name, give your address and mail to: Federal Communications Commission; 1919 “M” Street, N.W.; Washington, D.C. 20036. The Petition No. is R.M. 2493. Put this number on the envelope used to mail your j ■ letter, to the left of the address and underline it. A million signed letters would defeat Mrs. O’Hair and show her there are still many Christians alive and well. She is forgetting that this Nation was founded on religious freedom. If she doesn’t care for religious programs, all she has to do is to “turn the dial” and get something more to her liking. Get your friends and neighbors to also send a letter and pray that our efforts will be successful. This is SO important - don’t putdt off. —O— The weather outside was cold! Inside Bandon Chapel, warmth filled the air - one could feel the spirit of friendship and love as Asst. Supt. Wiley Hardison welcomed all who had braved the cold outside to gather together in God’s house to be spiritually refueled. Bible Study will be at 6:30 P.M. Wednesday, with Dr. Bill leading the discussion. Everyone is invited. Choir practice follows at 7:30 P.M. On Thursday, the BCWG meet from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M. They plan to trim the Christmas tree, enjoy luncheon together, then exchange Pollyannas. Mrs. Louise Waters is in charge of the luncheon. Prayer List: Wonderful things happen when God’s people pray one for another. Please add our friends to your prayer list. George Bunch, Jr. is confined to Pitt Memorial Hospital, Green ville; A1 Owens, father of Kenny Owens, is in DePaul Hospital, Norfolk, Va.; Frank Buck is still hospitalized in Norfolk General; Edward Johnson entered Leigh Memorial Hospital, Kempsville Rd., Norfolk, Va.; please remember Roy and Kitty Housden; “Duck” Reid; Thomas Blanchard; Ger trude Clark; Lula Work THE CHOWAN HERALD man; Rufus Smithson; Mrs. Mary Leary; \ our missionaries Nita Pride, the David Smith family and our much loved pastor. —O— ~ Our Juniors, taught by Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Beach, had as their subject “Courage To Continue”, Joshua 10: 1-14. Aim was that the student may develop steadfastness because he knows God is with him. —-O— --“Who is the Greatest?”, Luke 22: 24-77; Mark 9:33- 37, was the topic for our Adults, taught by Wm. F (Butch) Smith. Aim was that adult Christians rededicate themselves to walk in Christ’s steps of humble service. “Happy Birthday” was sung by all in honor of Dr. Bill, Trus Bunting, Jimmy Holloman, and Trudy Lapham as they placed their contributions in our Bir thday Bank. —O— The “Thanksgiving Service” last Wednesday was well received - so many people had so much to be thankful for. Among these things were: 1) I am thank ful that there is no power that can separate us from the love of God; 2) for all the blessings I have received; 3) for the privilege of being in the Lord’s house tonight; 4) for family and friends; 5) for Dr. Bill and my brothers (I wish I had a sister); 6) for food; 7) that I’m guided daily by God and am forgiven for my sins; 8) that here at Bandon our Christian love is growing for each other; 9) that Jesus is our pilot; 10) for good health, also my needs have been supplied; and many others, including that of Frankie Munthe, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. W.N. Waters: “I’m thankful for having the privilege of spending my Thanksgiving holiday with my loving aunt and uncle . For this I thank you, Lord”. Frankie is a first year student at Frederick Military Academy (Bth grade) and is a contributing reporter on staff of the school paper, “The Lion’s Thanksgiving comes at the time of the year When leaves are changing because fall is here, When the pumpkins are ripe, the turkeys are fat, And around the table the whole family has sat. From the kitchen comes the smell of fresh apple pie, When the scent hits our noses we let out with a sigh. We sit at the table with turkey and dressing, Then we all bow our heads for a thankful blessing. During Thanksgiving our families gather together, And I hope this tradition lives on forever. Choir Director Bonnie Sue Price was ill last Wed nesday. Following the service, the choir’s “guardian angel”, Mrs. Hilda Wisner, played the piano for our rehearsal and did a great job! Thanks, “Angel”. —O— “This is the day the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it”, said Dr. W.J.B. Livingston as he opened our Worship Service. His inspiring message was “Walking With God”, Genesis 5: 21-27. Enoch was 65 years old before he became the father of Methuselah. He walked with God 300 years after the birth of Methuselah. He is not famous because he was the father of the oldest recorded longevity- 969 years. He is famous because he was the FIRST person to go to Heaven without physical death. In Heb. 11: 5, we find that “By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him.” He was famous as a man who “walked with God”. This doesn’t mean physically walking but a movement toward the way in which we are going - walking with God. Enoch had away of knowing how to please God. He did not have the Bible as we have. He had the woods, birds, brooks and as he walked, he marvelled at the beauty of the sky, the plouds, the flowers, the stars and he worshipped the God who created all this. He walked in: 1) Truth and honesty: He hid nothing from God - his life was an open book. We have to open our lives and let God come in, then say “Lord, do what you will”. God will lead you to do better things; 2) In the Spirit: The Holy Spirit says He is willing to walk with us; 3) In Love: Walk with love, kindness and con sideration for others. Love yourself because God made you.; 4) In Wisom: You may have knowledge and not know what to do with it. Ask God and he will give you wisdom; 5) In Faith: Faith is believing in that which has no substance - in the energy, the power you can’t i I ■BfiMßfffffHr If .Mil DAVIS JEWELERS I South Broad Stmt Edenton . Roar”. His poem “Thanksgiving” was printed in the November issue of the paper. Share it with me: see but know it’s there - faith in the blood of Jesus. Walk with God. Take the High way as did Enoch. The Choir’s Christmas Dinner Party will be next Sunday (4th) at 5:30 P.M. in Fellowship Hall. Those bringing food are requested to be there by 5 P.M. —O— The Board of Deacons will meet at 9 ,A.M. Saturday (3rd) at the home of “Doc” Gilliam. —O— Children’s , Christmas Party will be sponsored jointly by Bandon Chapel and the POA. It will be held in the Arrowhead Beach Club House Sunday, Dec. 18th, from 2 to 4 P.M. Read instruction books which come with equipment and learn the proper way to use each feature to best advantage.
