Page 6-B SUer Os Mrs. Owens Dies Mrs. Marie A. Kubaski, 54, of 4625 Indiana Ave. Chesapeake Va. died Sunday in Chowan Hospital. She was a daughter of Mrs. Allie Myrtle Mizelle Goodwin and a sister of Mrs. Johnnie “Beulah” Owens both of Edenton. A Native of Windsor N.C. she was the widow of Joseph Thomas Kubaski and was a retired registered nurse of Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, Va. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Bowers Hill, Va. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lawrence of Chesapeake; two other sisters Mrs. Thelma Goodwin and Mrs. Shirley King both of Elizabeth City and three grandchildren. The event included live broadcasting by WCDJ from Quinn Furniture where it was held. Rock-A-Thon Nets $450 A number of Youth from Edenton Baptist Church participated in a Rock-A- TOE CHOWAN HERALD Thon, last Saturday, for the American Cancer Society and exceeded their S4OO goal by raising $450 through contributions and pledges. The young participants were joined in the event by Dr. Robert E. Gray, pastor of Edenton Baptist Church, Morris Small, Jr., manager of Northside branch of Bank of North Carolina, and Bob Moore, executive director of Edenton Chamber of Commerce. “We are most ap preciative of Bill Norvell of Quinn Furniture Co. for allowing us to use his storefront for this event and also of Terry Jones and Terry Williams of WCDJ radio, who broadcast live from the location”, said Denise Phthisic, president of the Edenton Baptist Youth Council. ' f ; 'S . ■ "t % j*' ’,4 I Service Is Held For Brother Os Mrs. Thrower PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Chief Petty Officer Bobby Ray Baynor, 32, brother of Mrs. Marion Thrower of Edenton, died Thursday-. A native of Washington County he was the husband of Mrs. Kay Snell Baynor and a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Garland Baynor. He was a ship’s service technician with 16 years service. Other survivors include a son, Bobby Ray Baynor of the home; a brother H. Garland Baynor, Jr., of Buena Vista, Ga.; three other sisters: Mrs. Ann Phelps and Mrs. Judy Edwards of Creswell; and Mrs. Peggy Bryan of Williamston. A funeral service was held Saturday at 2 P.M. in Creswell Baptist Church. Burial with military honors was in Azalea Memorial Gardens, at Columbia. Christmas at Old Salem in Winston-Salem is a look into the past. The Candle Teas, sponsored by the Women’s Fellowship of Home Moravian Church will be held at the Single Brothers House December 1,2,3, and 8,9,10 from 2 P.M. to 9 P.M. Christmas Eve lovefeasts are scheduled at Home Moravian Church at 11 A.M. and 2:30 P.M. for children and 5 and 7:45 for adults. “Salem Christmas 1800” at Old Salem is the sights and sounds of die Moravian congregation town of Salem in 1800. The celebration will be December 13 from 4 to 6 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. Tickets are limited. A special Christmas outing is planned at Tryon Palace in New Bern on December 18. Gardens will be open free to the public, and hot cider and cookies will be served. The lighting of the “world’s largest living Christmas tree” at Wilmington will be December 9. A stately live oak, botanists place its age at about 400 years. A major national arts and crafts show, Carolina Craftsmen’s Christmas Classic ’77, featuring exhibits and demonstrations from award-winning artists and craftsmen from all over the country, will be held December 10-11 in Charlotte. A special Christmas Tour of Homes is scheduled December 10-11 in Garner. Christmas in the Smokies will be celebrated December 21-26 at Fontana Village Resort. Down on the Outer Banks at Kill Devil Hills the First Flight Society will hold their annual celebration of the Wright Brothers first flight on December 17. The ' Charlotte Observer will sponsor a 26-mile, 385- yard marathon run through the streets of Charlotte on the 17th. Christmas is a special time in North Carolina.
