Council Officers Elected
The election of Student
Council officers and a
successful magazine sale
started the year off right for
the D.F. Walker Student
Council Association. “Now
this active group is anxious
to put some of their service
oriented ideas to work for
the benefit of school and
students,” according to
Mrs. West W. Byrum, Jr.,
co-advisor.
SCA elections are held
each fall, to give new 7th
graders a chance to become
totally involved in the
school’s program. New of

drunk driving, 60 days,
suspended upon payment of
$135 fine and costs.

disobey stop sign, not guilty.
Raleigh Percy Warren,
speeding, called and failed.

W.T. Elliott, Jr., was re
appointed foreman of the
Chowan County Grand Jury
Monday by Judge Herbert
Small of Elizabeth City.
The panel concluded its
work Monday, passing on all
the bills of indictment
presented by Dist. Atty.
Thomas Watts of Elizabeth
City.
Nine new jurors were
selected for the continuing
panel. They were: Sallie

response to the school’s
annual magazine sale has
really excited the student
council members”, ac
cording to Everette. As a
motivation element for
students, cash prizes were
awarded to the two highest
salespersons and a gift to
the third. Marth Scott
Harless, Greer Amburn and
Valeria Smith received $25,
sls, and a blow dryer,
repsectively, so their ef
forts. The school’s profit
from the sale exceeded
$940.00, one-half of which
will go the the Walker
Athleticprogramfor supplies
and equipment.
Committees have been
established and plans made.
The SCA will continue its
Beautification Project, with
emphasis placed on new
shrubbery for the front
campus. Free monthly
movies will be selected tor
the studet body and cultural
events sponsored. Monthly
bulletin boards will keep the
student body posted on the
philosophy and activities of
this enthusiastic SCA
organization.

Mr. Cullipher
Dies Sunday
COLERAIN - Moody
Taylor Cullipher died Sunday
in Leigh Memorial Hosp
ital in Norfolk, Va. He was
81.
A native of Bertie County
he was a retired farmer and
member of Bethany Baptist
Church. He was a veteran of
World War I.
He was the husband of
Mrs. Callie Davis Cullipher.
In addition to his wife,
surviving are two sons:
Ernest Cullipher of Edenton;
and Reuben Cullipher of
Dell City, Okla.; a daughter,
Mrs. Leslie Harden of
Chesapeake, Va.; six
grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held
at 2 P.M. jWednesday in
Bethany Baptist Church
with Rev. David Giffin
officiating. Burial was in
Hillcrest Cemetery with
Walker Funeral Home in
charge of arrangemens.
