that are safe -for older
children become hazardous
in the hands of younger ones
who are unaware of danger
such as sharp points and
edgea, or brittle glass and
plastic. When choosing a toy
fora toddler or infant, make
sure it - is too large to be
swallowed; does not have
detachable small parts that

secondary efforts at local,
regional and state levels;
and to express views on
federal and state purposes
and funding of vocational
education in North Carolina.

Wallace Leslie Thompson,
87, father of R.M. (Pete)
Thompson of Queen Anne’s
Edenton, died Friday
morning at 10:20 o’clock in
the Winslow Memorial
Home after a long illness.
A native of Chowan
County he had lived in
Elizabeth City most of his
life. He was the widower of
Minnie Markham Thompson
and the son of the late Jack
Carlton and Elizabeth Sykes
Thompson.
He served as Pasquotank
County Commissioner from
1932 .until 1938 when he was
appointed Sheriff of
Pasquotank County. He held
that office until December
3,1962.

The Town of Edenton will hold a public hearing
Tuesday, December 19, 1978, at 7:30 P. M. in the
Edenton Municipal Building to discuss the . town’s
preparation of a preapplication to the Community
Development Block Grant Program. Citizens are
invited to attend and express their views on com
munity development and housing needs. The
range of activities that may be undertaken will
be explained; the kind of activities that have been
previously funded and the progress to date will
be explained. Citizens should be aware that more
preapplications will be submitted that can be fund
ed and that the Town is competing with other
localties for these funds.
A final public hearing will be held Tuesday,
January 2, 1979, in the Edenton Housing Authority
Office at 115 Blades Street at a regularly sched
uled meeting of the Edenton Community Develop
ment Citizens Advisory Board. This hearing will
be to discuss the proposals that the town has pre
pared for its preapplication.
