Page 2-A Report From ASCS Crop Reporting—After all craps are planted, fanners must visit the county ASCS Office and report the acreages es each crop planted oh a field by field basis. June 14 is the final date to report peanut and flue-cured tobacco acreages. Corn, grain sorghum and other normal crop acreages must be reported by July IS. Far mers are urged to visit the county office as soon as all crops are planted and not later than the deadlines. ASCS personnel will assist farmers when making these reports. It is important that the acreages be reported accurately. In accurate reporting may cause loss of program benefits. If the farm owner or operator is unable to visit this office, he may designate someone in writing to file the acreage report. The person designated to give in this report should be familiar with the farm, recognize fields as shown on photocopy, know exact acreages planted, names of persons who share in crops and how they share. Far mers having questions concerning requirements should contact the Chowan County ASCS Office. Bills for Seed Peanuts If a producer did not retain 1978 crop peanuts for seed, he will be required to submit biSs showing the name and address of the person from whom the seed was pur chased, date of purchase and pounds acquired. This data must be presented when certifications are filed. Please bring your bills to avoid a second visit to the cqunty office. Start each boating trip by going through a check list of equipment and operating procedures. 2. Give your entire fuel system an inspection for leaks, cracks, and aging in general. All peanuts contracted must be for crushing or export, or both and must be contracted on a contract form furnished by ASCS. June 14 is the final date to file a contract. Agricultural Conservation Program—Farmers should review their conservation needs for the farm for 1979. Request for Federal cost share assistance should be filed and approved in the county ASCS Office before the practice is started in order to be eligible for assistance. Available practices are: Cropland Protective Cover, Animal Waste Control Facilities, Forest Tree Plantations and Forest Tree Stand Im provement. Discount Variety Tobacco The discount variety program is in effect again this year. Discount varieties are Coker 139, Coker 140, Coker 316, Dixie Bright 244, Reams 64 and 187 Golden Wilt and are supported at only 50 per cent of price support. Farmers will be required to certify whether or not discount variety is planted when they report their tobacco acreage. Crop Failure lf you are participating in the feed grain or cotton program and you have a failure, you are reminded to report this to the ASCS Office prior to disposing of the crop. We must make an appraisal of the crop before it is destroyed. Certain Pesticides Banned on Tobacco Tobacco treated with toxaphene, endrin, DDT and TDE after being trans planted will not be eligible for price support. 4. Know the requirements for safety equipment on your boat. Your local flotilla can give your boat a free, courtesy examination. 5. Know your boat; know the rules; know your 6. Stay seated. If your vessel should capsize or swamp, don’t try to swim to shore; remain with your boat or some floating object. 7. Red and green lights on the water mean almost the same thing as on the high way. If you see the red (portside) light of another boat, you must yield. If you’re seeing green, you have the right of way. 8. Tell a friend or neighbor where you’re going and when you expect to return. 9. If you’re trailering, check thoroughly before starting out. You don’t want to run aground in your driveway-through lack of air in the tires.
