Thursday, June 7, 1979 Bandon Notebook: When The World Closes In, God Is Still The Answer By Maggie B. Hi, Neighbors! “The Scripture says that in His awn sweet way- if we but wait - The Lord will take our burdens and set crooked matters straight.” This little verse by Harry Chester is so comforting when things around us seem to “close in” - when news on radio, TV and in the newspapers are filled with acts of violence, decadence and disaster - when physical limitations prohibit us from doing what we want to do - when we are discouraged and God seems far away - and - when we forget our blessings and tend to become bitter or critical. These few lines remind us that God is STILL in control - all we have to do is trust Him and let Him take over. As Mary Frances Butts puts it: “Build a little fence of trust around today; Fill each space with lov ing work and therein stay; Look not through the sheltering bars upon tomorrow, God will help thee bear what comes of Joy or Sorrow.” Such a beautiful day! This Lord’s Day was just right for gathering together in God’s House for a spiritual refueling! Those assembled at Bandon Chapel for Sunday School were joyfully welcomed by Supt. B. Kent Rowley. Sylvia Johnson; “Benny” Twine; our missionnaries Nita Pride, David & Linda Smith; and our beloved pastor, Dr. W. J. B. Livingston and his lovely wife, Sarah. “The Need to Make Right Decisions”, I Sam. 10- 16;22,23; 16:1, was the topic for our adults, taught by Meredith Barden. Aim was that adult Christians evaluate whether they are following God’s revealed will or instead telling God what they will do for Him. “Happy Birthday” was sung by all in honor of Sarah Livingston as she placed her contribution in our Birthday Bank. Dr. W. J. B. Livingston’s inspirational morning message was “We Can Turn Tragedy Into Victory”, Judges 16:18-22,23-31. He told the story of Samson and Delilah, how Samson was born with a purpose, finally fulfilling that purpose by calling on God to renew his strength once more so that he could free the Hebrews from the Philistines. God gave him the strength, he pulled the great pillars down and with them the Philistines and also himself. Recently, we’ve had two tragedies in this country - the Three Mile Island in cident and the crash of the DC 10 in which 274 people were killed. Can any good come from such? Yes. The Three Mile Island accident forced us to look to all help described the many contributions of milk and the . dairy industry to our American way of life. Milk and dairy products provide a significant amount of our daily need for protein, calcium, and many other essential vitamins and minerals. And they provide this nutrition at a cost which has increased less than all other major food groups. In recent months, it has been reported by the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics that everything measured by its Consumer Price Index has advaheed at least 100 per cent since 1967, in cluding the price of food. However, milk and dairy products have increased only 85.2 per cent since 1967. It is interesting to com pare this 85.2 per cent in crease with the 134 per cent increase of cola drinks since 1967; or the 167 per cent increase of sugar and other sweets. The dairy industry is a major employer and tax payer in many communities and cities throughout North Carolina and the nation, and continues to build and ex pand to keep pace with consumer demand for its products. June Dairy Month is a natural time to pause and reflect on the significant contributions to our health and economy made by the dairy farm families of our state and nation. And June is a natural time to say “thanks” for providing our daily supply of nature’s most nearly perfect food - milk. The DC 10’s have been grounded and may be the way which God used to save thousands and thousands of people and increase all air safety. All of us are bom with a purpose. Nobody can take anyone else’s place. If we stray from the goal God has for us, if we repent somehow God can make something good out of our sin. God can do the im possible. Go to him in prayer and He will make your life victorious. The Board of Deacons will meet Thursday morning at 9:30 A.M. in the Sanctuary for their monthly meeting. Please note the change in day.
