Bunch, Albemarle Conservation District chairman, reports that two students from Chowan High School have been selected to represent Chowan County at the 1979 Resource Con servation WdHcshop. They are Kermit Nixon, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Nixon, and Craig Blanchard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Blan chard, both of Route 3, Edenton. Both boys are rising juniors at Chowan High School. Soil and Water Con servation Commission, is being held on campus of N. C. State University in Raleigh the week of June 18-22. Talmud SB'!/ m ! >r 'Pftl? a John M. Scott Soil Scientist Arrives There is a new soil scientist working with the statewide soil survey project in the Albemarle Conservation District. He is Jbhn M. Scott. John will work on the N. C. Soil Survey project and has been assigned to work in the Albemarle Conservation District. John is a native of Wind lake, Wise, and attended the University of Wisconsin. He received his degree in Soil Science and Resource Management in December, 1978. • John began work May 29 and will train for a couple of weeks in Hertford, where he now lives. King Street, Edenton, is among 926 University of North Carolina at Charlotte students making the Chancellor’s List for the 1979 spring semester. Perry is a junior at UNCC. Meeting Postponed Jehovah’s Witnesses in Edenton are cancelling their meeting here from June 14 to 17 to attend a four-day district convention in Hampton, Va., Fletcher Gardner, presiding minister of the Edenton congregation, said today. Approximately, ioo persons will represent the Edenton congregation. Over 6,000 persons are expected to attend the meeting which begins in the Hampton Coliseum Thursday mor ning and ends Sunday evening. Sessions begin at 9:30 A.M. and run til 5:30 P.M. Two duplicate con ventions have been scheduled for the city of Hampton to assure adequate seating. The first convention, held June 14 -17 drew delegates from Eastern Virginia, Maryland and part of Delaware. Ninety-three conventions are scheduled to be held in major cities across the United States during June and July, Gardner said. The family-type program will have something for everyone, Gardner said. Since 1979 marks the 100th anniversary of publication of “The Watchtower’’ magazine, several talks are devoted to the expansion of Jehovah’s Witnesses during the past 100 years, Gardner said. The organization has grown from a handfull in 1879 to over 2-million today. The Witnesses are active in 205 lands including 40 countries where their work is banned. The Watchtower magazine has increased its circulation from 6,000 copies in 1879 to 9,200,000 copies and is published in 82 languages. Three Bible dramas in full costume are included in the program. Wki * M HSI STUDENT RECOGNIZED Amby Harrell, a graduating senior, was recently honored as being the Outstanding Business Student at John A. Holmes High School. A member of the Future Business Leaders of America, she was recognized for her typing, bookkeeping and other academic abilities relating to Business Occupation. She was the ad vanced typewriting champion in district competition held in Greenville and has received numerous other awards for her achievements in office and business studies. Amby is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanton Harrell, Route 2, Edenton. She plans to continue living in Edenton and pursuing a career as a business secretary. Page 5-B
