Mx. Symons l*k*M Sxid. HERTFORD - Miss Catherine Faye Evans became the bride of John Hill Symons, 111, in a double- Iring ceremony Sunday afternoon in Bethel Baptist Church. Rev. Stanley Nixon of Hertford officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lloyd Evans of Hertford. Mr. Symons is the son of Mrs. and Mrs. Symons, Jr. of Hertford and the grand son of Mr. and Mrs. Nereus Chappell of Belvidere. Presenting a program of music were Mrs. Carolyn Lavezzo, of .'Hertford, organist; Rex Jackson, of Sanford, trumpeter, and Mrs.- Jane Gower, of Cary, sister of the bride, vocalist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of white silk organza over bridal taffeta with an empire waist, victoriap neckline, and a full skirt with sweep train. Her bouquet was white silk roses, cymbidiums, and lilies of the valley. Mrs. Linda Musten of Raleigh was her sister’s matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Miss Barbara Symons of Hert ford, sister of the groom; Miss Sybil Hobbs of Rich mond, Va.; Miss Melinda Seay of Garner; and Mrs. Debbie Jackson of Sanford. Flower girl was Miss Dabney Woodard of Hert ford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Woodard. Mr. Symons was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Lloyd Evans, Jr. of Hert ford, brother of the bride; Dennis Symons and Mark Symons, both of Hertford and brothers of the groom; Roger White of Crouse; Wayne Tarkenton of Raleigh; and Donnie Luper of Chapel Hill. Ring bearer was Master Jeffrey Roberts of Virginia Beach, Va., son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Roberts and cousin of the groom. Acolyte was Master John Evans of Hertford, brother of the bride. Mistresses of ceremony were Mrs. Jeanne White, aunt of the groom; and Mrs. Joyce Hobbs, both of Hert ford. Immediately following the cerepnony, the bride's parents entertained at a reception in the Church Social Hall. Later Mr. and Mrs. Symons left on their wedding trip to Charleston and Myrfie Beach, S\ C. They will make their home in Cary. The bride is a summa cum laude graduate of N. C. State University in Raleigh and is employed as a programmer by Data General in the Research Triangle Park. The groom is a graduate of N. C. State University in Raleigh and is currently employed as co-manager by Big Star in Raleigh. Courtesies The bride was entertained at a floating miscellaneous shower on July 6 by friends and relatives at the Hertford Baptist Church. A lingerie shower was given for the bride July 7 by Mrs. Harriette Woodard and Miss Dabney Woodard at their home in Hertford. The bridal couple was honored at a Luau given by Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Gower and Mr. and Mrs. Danny Musten July 27 at the home of the Gower’s in Cary. On the evening of July 28, Mrs. Debbie Jackson honored the bride with a Tupperware shower in Raleigh. A pool party, August 3 was given for the couple by Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Landing, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Dail, and Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Chappell all of Hertford at the home of the Landing’s. Mrs. Mary Evans, Mrs. Delia Nowell, Mrs. Louise Evans, and Mrs. Jo Ann Evaqs, aunts of the bride entertained the bride and her attendants at a bridesmaids luncheon August 4 at the home of Robert O. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth White of Portsmouth, formerly of Edenton. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Marjorie Sheppard of Chesapeake. The double-ring can dlelight ceremony was jointly performed by Rev. J. Harold Moreland and Dr. R. Clayton Pitts. A program of wedding music was presented by ‘Ms. Dorothy Stallings, organist. The bride, escorted by her mother, wore a long-sleeved white gown with empire bodice trimmed in ribbon and lace, and wore a circlet of baby’s breath in her hair. She carried a bouquet of white roses, miniature carnations, and ivy arranged over a Bible presented to her by Jackson Memorial Baptist * Church upon her coronation as Girls’ Auxiliary Queen in 1963. Mary Ellen Boyce of Brodnax, Va., was matron Page 3-A of honor and the only at tendant. The mother of the bride wore ice blue while the mother of the groom chose apricot. They wore mat ching white orchid corsages. In addition, each was presented with a long-stem red rose during the ceremony. Christopher W. Sheppard of Suffolk, was his brother’s best man. Ushers were: R. Paul Merritt of Winfall and Tom Johnson of Ports mouth. Parchment scrolls con taining the Biblical passage from Ruth 1:16 were distributed as wedding favors by David Ober of Roper and John Merritt of Winfall. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Commissioned Officers’ Club of the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Judi Smith. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Edward Spruill of Roper. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Mildred Rhoads Tice and the late Rogers Lewis Tice of Moyock. The bride wore a floor length chiffon gown ac cented with a fitted bodied of Chantilly lace and pearls. Three tiers of chantilly lace accented the hem area and chapel train. The bride’s mother wore a long soft knit dress in a peach shade with a mat ching chiffon cape. The bridegroom's mother wore a long soft lavender knit dress belted at the waist with front slit and accented with matching braid trim. Wedding music was provided by Mrs. Patty L. Harris of Elizabeth City, organist. The bride had Miss Tegwen M. Davis of Virginia Beach, Va. as her honor attendant. Bridesmaids were Miss Diana Joy Spruill of Roper, sister of the bride; Mrs. Cynthia T. Corbell of Moyock, sister of the bridegroom; and Miss Cheryl Hollowell of Eden ton.
