Welcome Judges
Today, those who meander
along the Public Parade alter the
N.C. Governor’s Community of
Excellence Program. And we
want to welcome the judges who
will make the decision as to
whether this community
measures up to the standards
established for the program.
Naturally, we feel the com
munity not only meets, but ex
ceeds, the criteria in this self
analysis, or inventory, of what is
needed for economic growth. It is,
however, beneficial to improve
our competitive position in at
tracting business, and industry
which results in more jobs and
increased investments.
The program’s objectives are
positive. They are: to help our
community become better
prepared for industrial and
economic development; and to
provide the state’s Economic
Development Divisions and their
allies a better inventory of com
munities to bring to the attention
of industrial firms seeking new
plant locations.
Designation as a Tar Heel
Community of Excellence opens
many doors. It also puts us in a
select group of communities
across the state whose names will
