Page 4-B N. C Peanut Market Trade Is Sluggish Soa til eastern Section Trading for peanuts grown in the Southeast was moderate for U. S. Splits and Number One and slow for other grades. Demand was fairly light and prices were unchanged. The crop continued to progress with hot and humid weather prevailing. Most old crop sales limited to odd lots and PAC stock. Prices paid per pound for Southeastern grown shelled Runner Type peanuts sold on an FOB shipping point basis were for new crop No. 1 Sep tember to April delivery 32 Vi cents, September to October few 32, September to December few 33; U. S. Splits September to March delivery 34*6, September few 34V4, November to June few 35Vi; old crop Jumbo prompt 37. Virginia-North Carolina Trading for peanuts grown in Virginia and North Carolina was fairly slow but improving. Demand was fairly light and prices were about unchanged. Weather conditions were favorable for crop development. Growth regulators were applied in some fields to curb foliar growth. Inquiries by exporters increased, especially for Extra Large and Jumbo. Prices paid *for new Virginia Type peanuts sold on an FOB shipping point basis for October to March shipment unless otherwise stated were for new erop Unshelled Fancy 35; Shelled Medium October to May delivery 37; Number One 33; old crop Shelled Medium August 364. Southwestern Section Trading for peanuts grown in the Southwest was slow. Demand was light and prices were about un changed. The crop was in good condition and light harvesting was underway in South Texas. Burriss Appointment Is Announced Rod Hanchett, director of operations for Pfizer Genetics’ area headquar ters in Windfall, Ind., has announced the appointment of Ernest Roeber (Roebie) Burriss, *lll’, to a regional sales management position. His sales territory comprises all of North Carolina and most of Virginia and West Virginia. Burriss was formerly farm market manager for Kaiser in North and South Carolina. Pfizer Genetics Inc. produces and markets Trojan brand hybrid seed com and Pfizer Genetics soybean and sorghum seed. Soybean Crop Looking Good In 1979 A record high soybean crop is indicated for North Carolina based on crop conditions around August 1, according to the N. C. Crop and Livestock Reporting Service. Other forecasts indicated more com, cotton, apples and sweet potatoes but less tobacco and peanuts. Growing conditions and soil moisture supplies were generally favorable to crop development during July. The North Carolina com crop is forecast at 136- million bushels, up three per cent from the July forecast and up 12 per cent from 1978. Acreage for gain is up six per cent while the yield per acre is up four bushels from last year. Soybean production in the Tar Heel State is forecast at a record high 44.4-million bushels, 19 per cent more than 1978. Acreage for harvest at 1.85-million acres is up 19 per cent and the expected average yield per jacre at M bushels is the [same as last year. The Tar Heel cotton production is placed at 45.000 bales, up two per cent N.
