begun and will continue
through November 30. The
season is scheduled to begin
the second week in
December.
Girls Basketball
Participation forms for girls
basketball ages 10-14, are
now being accepted through
November 30. The season
will begin in early
December.
One-on-One Basketball
(Competition One-On-One
competition will be held
November 20, 21- and 23.
Anyone interested should
)sign up at the recreation
department. Trophies will
be awarded to all first place
winners. The competition
includes ages 9-18.

There will be a meeting
for all coaches interested in
entering a men’s basketball
team this winter, Wed
nesday, December 12 at
7:30 P.M. in the recreation
department office. There
will be a maximum of eight
teams in this league.
Ping Pong Tournament
A ping pong tournament will
be held in December for all
ages interested. Forms may
be obtained from the
recreation dpeartment to
enter this tournament.
Gymnastics Forms are
still being accepted for the
gymnastics program for
grades K-4. There is a
charge of $5 for each child.
Classes are being held in
Swain Auditorium each
Friday from 3:15 until 4:30.
The instructor is Ms. Jo
Wheeler. There is a limit of
35 children on a first come
first serve basis. Ap
plications can be obtained
from the recreation
department.

Phelps Volunteer Fire
Departments are spon
soring a barbecue Saturday
beginning at 12-noon. The
price is $2.50 per plate.
Proceeds will go to the
department.
The teams traveled to
Elizabeth City on Saturday,
November 10 for matches
against the Elizabeth City
Boys Club. Scores were:

A return match is planned
for the teams on November

The Youth Choir of
Edenton Baptist Church will
present a musical entitled
“Breakfast in Galilee” on
Sunday at 7:30 P.M.
Written by Sonny
Salsbury, the musical is set
in the area around the Sea of
Galilee and depicts the
events of Jesus’ final days
with His disciples.
Soloists for the per
formance will be Susie
Keeter, Laura Walker, Jeff
Babb, and Frankie Parrish.
Speaking parts will be done
by Jesse Askew, Jim
Chesson, Graham Cox,
Steve Lane, and Frankie
Parrish.
The 45-member choir is
under the direction of James
H. Hyatt, Jr., minister of
music of the church.
The public is invited to
attend.

Following the double ring
ceremony refreshments
were served. Included was a
cake prepared for the bride
and groom by a Morehead
City restaurant.
On October 5, Mr. and
Mrs. Nelson entertained
members of the wedding
party at dinner. About 55
people attended.
Following their wedding
trip the couple resides in
Beaufort.
They join an elite group of
students selected from more
than 1,200 institutions of
higher learning in all 50
states, the District of
Columbia and several
foreign nations.

Frances Wood Crawford,
daughter of James Wood of
Edenton, is currently
exhibiting her art work at
Court Square Antiques. She
graduated in 1951 from
Randolph Macon College in
Lynchburg, Va. with a
degree in art.
She continued her studies
with Dr. Beatrix Van Kellar
and Pierre Dama; and at
the Corcoran in Washington,
D. C., while employed with
the C.I.A. After her
marriage to Milo Crawford,
they moved to Chapel Hill
and Frances began pastel
portraits of children.
She has had one man
shows at the Morehead
Planetarium, First Union
National Bank in Chapel
Hill, and at the Glen Lennox
N. C. National Bank and has
shown some work at the N. C.
School of Public Health
Shows in Chapel Hill.
In addition to teaching at
the St. Thomas More School
in Chapel Hill, she has
taught art privately, and is
currently active as a por
trait painter in the Chapel
Hill area. The public is
invited to Court Square
