The Recreation Report
Gymnastics
Beginning March 18 thru
May 6, a period of eight
weeks, there will be an
advanced gymnastics
course by the Edenton-
Chowan Recreation
Department. To be eligible
for the advanced class you
must have taken the
beginner’s class. There will
be two classes with a total of
60 slots held. Each class will
meet once a week from 3:30
to 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday or
Thursday at Swain
Auditorium. These classes
will be taught by Jo Wheeler
and Nancy Smith. The cost
will be $lO per child.
On March 19, Wednesday,
Miss Wheeler will offer a
free beginners class for sth
and 6th graders only. There
will be 35 slots in this class
and it will fill up on a first
rom<» first basis. This
check drawn on some bank
or trust company insured by
the Federal Deposit In
surance Corporation, in an
amount equal to not less
than five per cent of the
proposal.
Performance and
payment bond will be
required an an amount
equal to one hundred per
cent of die amount of the
contract.

Spring Soccer
Spring soccer will begin in
March for ages 9-12. Those
interested should pick up a
participation form at the
recreation department
office.
Midget Allstars
The Edenton Midget
Basketball Allstars were
defeated Saturday in the
District playoffs in Hert
ford. The Hertford Allstars
won by two points, by a foul
shot in the final minutes of
the game. We congratulate
the Edenton Allstars for a
fine effort and team sport
smanship.

Seminar
The Sheriff’s Department
of Chowan County, local
police departments, and the
Crime Prevention Division
of the North Carolina
Department of Crime
Control and Public Safety
are sponsoring a Citizens’
Conference on Crime
Prevention.
The meeting in Chowan
County will be held on
Tuesday March 4,1980 at the
Council Chambers in
Edenton Town Hall at 3
P.M. o’clock. The speaker
for the conference will be L.
D. Hyde, Director of the
Crime Prevention Division.
Mr. Hyde will be introduced
by Sheriff Toppin.
Mr. Hyde will speak on the
responsibility of the citizen
in the fight against crime.
He will emphasize citizen
support for local law en
forcement, and the for
mation of County Crime
Prevention Committees. A
special program of crime
prevention for young people
in the county will be an
nounced at the conference.
Citizens of all ages in
cluding students, in or out of
school, working people,
professionals, and retired
persons are encouraged to
attend.

meeting is being made by
Sheriff Toppin in the
Sheriff’s office, and by Mr.
Kenneth Wright of the
Crime Prevention Division,
Department of Crime
Control and Public Safety,

Club News
The Ebonettes Extension
Homemakers Club met at
the home of Mrs. Emily
Brooks. Mrs. Catherine
Carter served qs hostess.
An educational program
on wood stoves was
presented by Mrs. Bessie
Walton. The program was
enjoyed by club members as
well as husbands and
friends, who attended.
A covered dish was ser
ved.
The next meeting will be
held at the home of Mrs.
Mary Cooper.
